Interchangability of Transmissions?

I could have sworn this was recently discussed. If its in the FAQs and I missed it please tell me.

How interchangeable are transmissions on 4th gens...from 95's through 99's?

Also isn't there a recent thread about being able to use a 2000 tranny?

I ask because there is a chance that my tranny on my 95 is shot and I'm trying ot come up with the best and cheapest solution to fix it.

Any problems with the swap? Did you need anything special with the 2000 tranny?
Thanks.

Anyone else? Do you think I would have any problems using a 98 or 2000 tranny on my 95 max? Is it pure plug and play or are there any installation issues?

In order for this tranny to function you will need to replace both axles. The car will not even move with the 4th gen axles.

Autozone axle part numbers are

Left drivers side 9717 and right side part number is ST1270. Call various autozones as they may say some stup!d **** like we dont make them etc..because they are too lazy to check the computer or dont feel like ordering them. The tranny seals are all the same thing from 95-01
left drivers side 38342-81X00 and 38342-81X01 for right side these are the seal part numbers. DAVEB the parts guy was right the internals are different. You will also need to remove your old speed sensor and install it on the 2K-2k1 tranny. If you dont do this you wont know how fast/miles you have traveled.

from FAQ's for 2k+

i am pretty sure you cn interchange 95-99 tranny's

kevlo 911

you are wrong. you can use older axles.

irvine78 was cruising around on 97 automatic axles for about 5 months. he had to replace them because the 97 axles were already on there way out but in better condiotion then his manual axels temporary fix. they matched the axels up at the shop and there was no difference.

i matched up my 2k axles with my 99 auto axles and i saw no visible difference.

95 - 97 have different bolt patterns then 98 - ?.
At least for automatics. I know because I almost bought a 98 tranny for my 95 but found out that it wouldn't fit.
