Craaaaap!!!

oh CRAAAAP

My car rolls back from a stoplight

My car drives as if i'm riding the clutch if i go easy on the gas

My car chirps its tires if i go hard on the gas

My car grinds its gears if i go easy on the gas

My car doesn't engage the gears until after 2500 RPM

What sad poetry, eh?

Sad but true

Brought it to Aamoco today...said it was toast, needed a rebuild which was 2300 bucks

i said thanks, but forget that

I called Jeff@Maximum Tuning...he knew exactly what was wrong with the car. That's why he was the first i called, Aamoco i went to only because I was out. He said this would be a first of his because of how low the miles are on the car. However, he quoted me 1900, which includes a rebuild with all new, upgraded soft parts...unlike a local tranny shop, which would pull it, find what's wrong, replace that little bit, and charge for a full rebuild. His rebuild includes all new stuff, a TQ converter of my choice (which is what died in the first place) and a FREE aux. tranny cooler w/VB mod of my choice (he has different stages of VB mods...i'll probably get a Stage 1/2 mod.) Despite my sadness that my baby is down, the fact that he'll take 3 days, a local shop will take 2 weeks, and the fact that everyone with a max travels real far to see him, basically means that I'm going to Jeff with a smile on my face, because just one phone call with him, and i felt COMPLETELY safe...real good guy, and the tons of other satisfied people on the orgy concur. This is more of a lament post...but SHEESH!!! 25K miles!!?? I wasn't even driving the s*** that hard! At least he guarantees his work...and i have the comfort of other satisfied max owners...Any other suggestions, feel free. I also asked about a manual conversion since it was already imminent that i'd need a new tranny. That's 3 grand with parts/labor, after all's said and done. I'll stick with a modded auto, which will make the car a whole lot faster anyway, VB modded autos are just as quick as sticks...

check out their site, that's what Jeff told me on the phone. Depending on how crazy i go with the VB mod (he said i get to select what level i want to do) it's feasible i could run with stick maxes...quite feasible...

I highly doubt that the listed modifications will make your car otherwise, as fast as a manual tranmission maxima.

The simple fact that an automatic transmission car has to spin the internal masses of a torque convertor, through a viscous fluid as opposed to a flywheel will makes the difference in performance.

Because of inherent designs, it simply won't happen.

oh well...

can't hurt to dream...it does make sense...it's what i know about drag racing that made me draw such conclusions. Anyway, i take the whip to State Line on Monday. We'll see if they'll comp me on anything. If not, then the car goes straight to Jeff...

I think if someone swapped the 5speed auto from the 6th gens the 4th gen Max would be alot quicker. Correct me if im wrong, but part of the speed loss between auto / manual is the 4 speed tranny vs the 5 speed.

yes thats true to an extent, but also 5 spd autos are generally still not as fast as normal 5 speed sticks.

The gear ratios has something to do with autos being less powerful. However, it is mainly due to the hydrolic vs. mechanical issue as stated by Sin. To prove the point someone could somehow build an auto with the exact same 3rd gear ratio as a 5Spd. Dyno results would still show a 4-6% loss of power transfer in the auto. End of story. If you beat an equally powered/modded 5Spd in your auto its because he is a sh!tty driver.

i posted a thread on this in october i think in the general forum. People said that we could use our current shell and take hte internals of hte 5speed auto. I think they also said hte "Drive-by-Wire" system would have some conflict. if you can find hte thread you will get more info.

Well, it's a non issue. State Line Nissan of Port Chester, NY one upped themselves yet again. They ordered me a NEW transmission. NEW. NOT rebuilt. BRAND SPANKIN' NEW!!! and the best part? the whole shebang is FREE! Why do i get so amazed by this? It's a '99. I'm the 2nd owner. Under that warranty, it doesn't carry over to the 2nd owner. Also, the 3 years have passed already...even though it's under 36,000. So basically, i got a 3500+ Freebie. I love those guys

I'm still bringing it out to Jeff for a VB mod though
