Another one bites the dust (tranny destroyed)
I join the list of people with ****ed up tranny's - my 4th gen tranny just shat 1st and 2nd gear out. Drove my car yesterday morning to a friends house and it seemed fine. Parked it and 3 hours later on the drive home, I notice that the shifter is feeling real loose and way to easy to engage; its also taking more finese to hit the second gear shift. This goes on for 10 minutes of some mixed highway/street driving to my house, when about 2 miles away from home I shift into second gear and nothings there! All I get is a rattling sound out of my tranny. Luckly I was about 5 blocks from my brother house and I was able to coast it all the way down the hill to his place where its sitting now. It sounds pretty bad - getting the car into a parking space with my friends pushing, would roll the car then something in the trans would get caught up and competly lock the wheels. I'm pressuming 2nd gear is floating around in my gear box.
It was having problems since I bought it used - lots of play in the shaft, leaking fluid (changed to MT-90), throwout bearing recently starting to whine, hard to get out of 1st gear etc. What kind of prices did you guys pay to have a new trans installed (shimming problem solved + decent warranty...)?
This is the second time this year my Max craps out right before a vacation trip. Guess the ****ing car really doesn't want to go skiing...

Hmm. So the noise was really bad? I ask because as I posted in the general forum, my clutch simply stopped working while I was driving. However I did not hear any noise what so ever. I can shift the clutch, but nothing happens, it simply won't engage.
good luck.
good luck.
