close call - check your hoses!

i was driving home one late night and all of a sudden the car jolts and i lose power steering for some reason.. i freak out then wrestle the car over. i turn it off then try to restart it.. the rpms burble and die.

so i turn the hazards on and get out the car with the flashlight and look around the engine. the first place i look was the air filter. the hose popped off. relieved, i put it back on and made sure it was on tight. i mustve overlooked it when i took my intake off

just sharing the story to tell you guys to make sure you check your hoses so the same thing wont happen to you. im just glad the steering didnt lock up on me while iwas turning!

You lost power steering after the car died right? Which hose came off? You should always double check yourself.

Sounds like the IAC valve hose. I don't see how it would cause the car to stall though. The hose is simply a filtered air source to maintain a fair idle. Removing this hose from the midpipe or resonator box, would not stop airflow to the IAC valve. It would simply be an "un filtered" dirty air supply. There would still be a supply to the IAC though. Did your car throw any codes when it stalled out on you? If so, you might want to check em.

Yeah. There is the Valve cover vent hose on the left, and the IAC valve hose is onthe right. It's about the same size as the Valve Cover vent hose. The tiny hose is like a fuel system vent hose. I traced it once, butit's been a while. Can't remember. But yeah. Looking from the drivers fender sounds like you're mentioning the IAC valve hose. Like I said. Not saying its not what caused your car todie, just can't see any real explanation why it would have. The only thing I can thing, is if the vacuum that is produced inside the intake midpipe or Resonator, is somehow tiedinto the IAC valve. But I seriouslydont think it is. I'm just throwing out thoughts, Anyone else can jump in here any time.

If the thick hose fell off, the extra hole in the intake pipe, is a source for air. More specifically, unmetered air.
