did 2 projects to my gxe today!: check them out!

i didn't have the power trunk option and added it. the difference is that i put the button in one of those empty slots next to the dimmer switch. others will probably be able to put it next to their cruise control switch if you have that slot open. what i basically did was cut the stock harness and wires out of the door, then spliced them into where they are in the car, and relocated the button. the button sticks out a little and i wish i got black, but it'll do. the reason i added power trunk is so i can put that option on my keyless entry and alarm keychain.

the other mod i did was to add power/lighted sun visors because my gxe came without those too. i explained that in this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....37#post2591737

here are some pictures if anyone is interested:

a little but doesn't look as bad in person. if it was black it would blend better...which can be easily swapped.

it works and i didn't have to cut a hole in my door...so i'm satisfied.

no offense but that looks horrible!!

you should have bought a momentary(push button) switch. That would have looked 100x better!

Nice job, but I also think you should just get a small momentary push button type switch. Radio shack or even Home Depot should have them for a couple dollars.

i couldn't find those buttons at the stores i looked...if i find one, i can still do it. i didn't have to do any physical modifications to the button area so it's not set in stone. i will probably end up getting one of those when i find it and the wiring will be easy, but in the meantime, it works and i don't mind it. thanks for the feedback though everyone...

definately will in time, but for now it stays. i went to home depot and autozone and didn't see the push kind, only toggle switches. i'm planning on finding another this week. it really doesn't stand out as much in person, but i agree is a lil fugly.

we've already had plenty of comments on the looks...but i think it's a better place for it than the door.

i just now need to remove the stock manual cable. that'll be another day when i have time, maybe when i change the button.

For more security

You should wire this up so it only works with the ignition running, otherwise thieves have an easy way into your trunk. Might not be important for you, unless you keep stuff in there.

Jepht20,

Glad to see you got the button, but I didn't know you were gonna put it there. I like the innovation, but definately check the shack and hook it up nice!

Your SE didn't come with the power trunk opener feature?

But then it would not work with the alarm remote which is the main reason for installing this.

Power trunk came with the security and convienence package on the SEs also. I have a base SE and had to add a power trunk. I used a universil kit and left the stock cable in place, my power trunk can only be activated with the remote. The cable release still works fine but a button would be handy for when I want a passenger sitting in the car to pop the trunk for me.

That button would be a huge improvement.

i went to radioshack and two other stores today, no luck! the guy said none of the momentary switches were 12v. maybe i'll try another one because they are everywhere.

autozone suprisingly didn't have 1! they had a million rocker switches but no momentaries. i'd like to get the black one like maxima10to1's.

the 3rd store i went to was a boat store and it had one but it was a big ugly red one that might stand out more so than the fugly brown button i have now.

hopefully i'll have better luck at other stores.

hah even though swapping out interior parts isn't too bad, do you really think that's easier than splicing wires? plus, i can't even imagine how much the full interior change costs unless you have a hook up.

doesn't have to be "12V". the 125V ones will work fine. What's important is that it is at least 12V and can handle some current. The one I posted above would work fine, it will pass 12V and has a 3 amp current rating.

I like that newer switch better... good job. One question thou... Is there a way to disable the button from inside the car and only use my clifford remote button to open the trunk? So that would-be thieves wont jack my stuff.

it's the light for my aftermarket alarm. i wasn't crazy about it at first but it's easily seen at night and makes it known that i have an alarm. i might eventually move it but that's where they put it and i never really thought twice about it.

I think that's a great place for the alarm light. Easily seen through most windows of the car.

yeah it's definately easily seen and that's what i like about it. i guess i don't really mind it there. when it was put in, they drilled through the clock, d'oh!, and had to order me a new one. no biggie though.

You can use ignition instead of constant to power the switch, so that way it will not operate without the key in the ignition. When you hook up your keyless entry to it, you wire a relay:

85 (white) goes to your trigger from the keyless entry brain
86 (black) goes to 12v constant
87 (yellow) goes to (+)12v or (-)12v depending on what the trigger is
30 (blue) goes to the trunk release wire

When you press the option on your remote, it will pop the trunk, because the relay has (+)12v from pin 86.

not sure what all these numbers mean but:
-6A 120 V AC / 3 A 240 V AC
-OFF-(ON)
-Black ****

that's pretty much what the package says on it. i like the switch a lot and it was certainly cheap enough.

thanks again guys!

i'm gonna now get the power trunk popper button put on my keychain for another convenience.

gawd i hate the tan interior... sorry... i can't help it...
i'm a bit confused here, which models came without the power trunk and lighted visor feature? mine is a '95gxe which i thought up till now was as basic as they came... (i mean the only option it had was floormats, i understand that you could get a bunch of other options for the gxe...)
