question about lowering your car

I'm in the process of lowering my car to get rid of the 4x4 look of the car and i need the opnion of you guys. I'm going to be getting the kits from custommaxima.com and i don't care too much for the comfort of the ride as i know it's going to be a lil' bit more uncomfortable than the stock springs but i would want a slightly stiffer ride with more road control (whatever that means)and off course i want my car dropped cos the stock springs are too woobly for me. Any inputs would be greater appreciated

If you want to go below 1.5" I would go with either the KYB AGX's or the tokico illuminas. The tokico springs are fairly new, but i have heard great reviews from H&R(1.4"-front, 1.3"-rear) springs as well as Eibach. eibach is a lot stiffer though so for you you might want this. Check this out, it may help you. This is where I got my info for lowering my car which should be done in 3 days or so. good luck Bro, and also, see about doing it yourself becasue shops will want to charge b/t $100-$400 for installation.

KYB AGX/ H&R are the combo to go with...
I have had these for as long as I have owned the car. I love this combo almost as much as the stockies that came with the car. The H&R give a conservative 1.5" (exactly, 2 finger width) from the 4x4(5 finger width) look. But if you are looking for something lower I would suggest going with maxspeeds springs.

i'm another H&R/AGX guy. great handling, great comfort. Good combo to go w/ if you live near a city w/ lots of potholes. With this combo, it'll make it vertually impossible to scrape the bottom....get a front strut bar and rear sway bar to complete your suspension set up!

i favor sprints... but that's of course because i have them on my car. hehe... now i just have to get some new struts and i'll be good. i'm thinking about the gr-2's since they're fairly cheap.

Hey Apbrian112, FYI, i hear that KYB-GR2's cannot handle a far drop like what sprint gives( 2" all around) If you got KYB GR-2's you may end up busting a strut. But thats just what I've heard becasue I myself have tokico's and i'm not too sure about the GR2's. But just wanted to let you know b4 you bought them.

Is there much of a difference in quality between the Tokico HP series struts and the Tokico Illuminas? Is the only difference in the Illuminas is that they're adjustable? I'm thinking about going with the custommaxima Tokico package too, I'm opting for the HP series, since I'm broke.

I belive that becasue the illuminas are adjustable, they can handle more of a larger drop, like 1.7"-2.0". I think that the tokico HP is also refered to as tokico blues but im not sure. If that is the case, i heard that the rears tend to blow out easily. but i have heard from ohters that say that they are fine. That is what I'm using.

i like the way you've described the H&R/AGX combo. how much did that set you back, and what size wheels you got on there?

I have KYB AGX / eibach setup. It looks good and handles really nice. I am really happy with it.

maxspeed/ agx.. fairly good ride if u dont cut it. haha. i cut mine a coil so its a lil stiff. the drop wasnt good though.i still have 2 finger in the front.. and liek 2.5-3 fingers in the back after cutting 1 coil.. i have fairly skinny fingers though.

it will be the cheapest way.. maxspeed springs can be had for like under 100. no probs so far.

if u want nicest drop, get sprint...
best handling get eibach,
good in between get H & R.
cheapest get maxspeed

The Custom Maxima package with the Illuminas is a really nice setup. The drop is about 1.8" which gives the Maxima a nice stance and sits even on 5 speeds as well. The ride and handling is excellent. I've installed 3 of these setups in fellow org. members rides.

It's a really nice suspension package.

Yeah the Tokico HP series are also referred to as Tokico Blues. I had them on my 90' maxima for a couple years and they worked fine. I cant decide though whether to get Illuminas or Blues for my 97 5 speed.

check this out this will help with the appearance of the H&R/AGX combo. Remember this is just appearance, the ride is much better than the conservative drop. IMO that's why I bought them...

when are going to lower it? Sprint is coming out with their new shorter struts to match their springs. That means more suspension travel and a lower look. I know they are coming out with this for the maximas but not sure when. I just installed sprints with these new sprints shocks on my friends altima and I love it. It rides so nice and looks awesome
