I am 5-speed w/ y-pipe, CL600 had just the driver, 740i had 3 more people inside
I lost to both, but was kinda able to keep up with 740i.

 

I would think that you would rape the 740i

No doubt that the CL600 would be pretty darn fast!

 

the CL would take ya, no questions asked. The 740 is surprising, it's a big car with a not terribly powerful engine. It can handle, but it's not a mover like a CL600

 

Pritty good. we arnt that good off of dead stop starts due to the front wheel drive train, but maximas are high way killers, try to get races were you start in 2nd or 30mph's you'll do even better!!

 

Lets see:

1. 740i = 282hp/324ftq (NA)
2. CL600 = 493hp/590ftq (Twin Turbo-Charged)

You would need to go force-induced to keep toe-to-toe with the 740.
As for the CL600, we have no chance. The CL600 is a Twin-Turbo charged V-12 monster. That car has a hell of a motor... So forget about the Benz...

The CL600 is actually a 5.5L twin turbo V12. The CL65 is the 6.0L.

The 740i needs to be clarified... the ones from the mid-late 1990s are in the high 15s in the 1/4 (ie bend over and get ready to be raped by my midsize grocery getter). The brand new 740i are in the mid-high 14s... much more formidable.

Your argument of 282HP means nothing since the car weighs over 1000lbs more than a Maxima... if not more.

I assume that he did not race a brand new 740i... hence he had his number.

 

Exactly, you people always forget the power to weight ratio. 1000 more lbs is a **** load even if they have 90 more h.p, and with 3 other ppl in the car, I believe he could keep up. Think about it...

Well I think you need to get educated on BMW's...

1. There are no new 740s... The newest 7-series is the 745i (325hp/330ftq)
2. Yeah the 740i is 1000lbs heavier but a stock max or a maxima with y-pipe, exhaust, filter will not beat that car on the road...
1/4 0-60 is different than 1/2 to 1+ mile runs. So please buy all means **** with one on the highway and tell me what happens..

3. The benz CL series (2004) are in 4 flavors
a. CL500 (5.0 V8 302hp/339ftq)
b. CL55 AMG (5.4 V8 493hp/516ftq)
c. CL 600 (5.5 V12 493hp/593ftq) Twin Turbo
d. CL65 AMG (6.0 V12 612hp/737ftq) Twin Turbo only in europe.

 

Okay before this continues Kolyan needs to say which year the 740i was.

1. By "new" 740, I meant 2003... since he DID say 740 and not 745... I didn't think I needed to spell it out for you.

2. What is your definition of "on the road" - a 740 is a heavy ***** that will not keep up with a Maxima at lower speeds. The earlier 740s would not even keep up with a Maxima on a drag strip or to 120mph! On the highway, I have no doubt that the newer 740s would rip a Maxima.

call me crazy, but i could've sworn that i saw in all my recent auto mags that the CL65 IS coming over here...and yeah, from low speed rolls, you should definately have him, (the 740), even though the previous CL600 (the big fat mercedes as my mom likes to call the previous CL and S class) had nowhere near the power of the current one (I think it was 380 or something to that tune, maybe it was the BMW 750 that had that kind of power...i remember the BMW being somewhere in the ballpark of 360, but with mountains of torque...same with the CL) the previous generation CL had torque up the wazoo. at any speed, but especially on a roll, the CL is FAST...
