Anyone have pics of 97+ head & corner lights & grille on a 95/96 w/ the 95/96 bumper?

Does anyone have pics of 97+ head & corner lights & grille on a 95/96 w/ the 95/96 bumper?

I want to keep my 96 bumper and fog lights but go with the 97+ grille and headlights. I am having the work done by a shop as in insurance replacement, so I have to have everything all arranged in advance. I want to be sure that it looks okay before I tell them what parts to order.

I am reading tons of conflicting reports on fit and finish of this mod.

You'd have a bit of a problem doing the 97+ grille as the 97+ grill is longer vertically and would interfere with the 96 bumper. You'd either have to cut the grille to make it shorter vertically or cut the top of the bumper to get rid of those two humps in it where the grill shape matches (for lack of a better word) to the bumper humps.

I have a pic (lots infact) of 97+ bumper on a 96 with 96 grille and 96 headlights, but that's kindof the opposite of what you are looking for.

Yeah, I was thinking that i woudl have to shave off of the bottom of the pillars to make it fit, but accounts have varied from 1/8" to just under 1" of material that needs to be trimmed. That is a large range. I was hoping to narrow that down, plus to see how it would look. In the end, I may just stay w/ all 96 parts...or maybe just go to the 97+ headlights and cornerlights w/ the 96 grille. It all may be moot if the car is totalled (see my other post)...

Well the distance between the grille and bumper on a 96 is what, 1/4 inch? My 97 bumper with 96 grille has about 3/4 inch distance, so I'd say you are looking at shaving on the order of half an inch. Sorry to hear about your car

Didn't know insurance would get replacement parts from newer model years. When I got into an accident, they said I couldn't get anything unless it's the same model year.

I discussed it with the body shop, and since the check is made out to me, I can call the shots, to some limited extent. In this instance, they need to know what (if any) shaving work would be necessary so that they can write a seperate estimate for their time.

The problem is, I have to do it fast to eliminate downtime, because thay have to order the parts.

I am sorry as well. I will have pics up later tonight.

So about 1/2", eh? I can handle that, I am sure!

Is that on a 95-96 bumper, or did you convert the bumper as well?

Thanks, guys. All of the pics made it an easy decision to go with the 97+ front parts.

Now a mechanical question- Should i trim it, then paint it, or vice versa?

UPDATE:

I got the grille today, and I am about to take it to the shop. I ended up w/ the 95-95 lights due to immediate availability of them (versus the 97+ lights) and also due to price. I am selling the car as soon as I get it back, so it was not a big deal to me. I do, however, need to get the grill painted and installed.

I PMmed some of you, but so that ths thread is helpful to others, I will post the same questions here:

Where (if anywhere) did those of you who used the 97+ grill on the 95-96 bumper have to trim to make it fit? Was it the side posts only, or did you have to trim off the whole bottom "ledge" of the 97 grille to make it fit?

How much (in inches) did you have to trim off of it to make it fit, and where on the grille did you have to trim?

Thanks!
