How many rpm's at 70mph?

Just curious to see what other maximas are revving at. when i am at 65mph i at about 3k when i get to 70 i am sitting right at 3200rpms. it just seems a little high for me. I did replace the tranny about 5 months ago. i am not sure if that has something to do with it or not. what are you guys typically at? does that sound normal to you? there is no problem with it, just curious because it seemed a little high to me. thanks guys.

I don't think I've ever seen mine stay at 3000, and I drive regularly at 80 mph.

2800 at about 70, and 3000 at 80 or so

This is just a shot in the dark but you could check your idle and see if your engine is idling a liittle too high. I think that would affect your RPMs as you shift thru the gears.

That sounds about right for an auto. I'm at about 2750-2800 doing 80 mph.

When my auto is warmed up and in lockup 70 is about 2400, the reason why it is higher when cold is the torque converter is not in lockup mode yet and there is a little slippage when the TC isn't locked up...

I hate the short 5th gear in our 4th gens. Why did nissan make it so short? Doing acceleration runs through 5th gear doesnt make sense to start with...so why so short? My car runs at 3100rpms around 75mph which is way too high imo. It makes me feel as if I am killing the engine life and gas mileage doing that rpm constantly.

i did 80 average mph on a trip to canada, got 31 mpg. also i guess they made it short to necissitate less shifting on the highway

This seems about right for my car too, when warm, of course. My idle is right at 600rpm also.

my idle is right at about 600rpm also. see 2800rpm at 70 seems more like it to me. it just seems wierd that mine is 400rpm higher than that.

I have never messed with this, but could it be that your timing is out of whack? I mean, I know my brother had his timing adjusted, and his car ran a lot smoother. I don't really know if that would affect your idle or any other rpms?

I've also, always wondered why its so short. The 4th gear has a 0.954:1 ratio, while 5th has a 0.795:1, IMO it's not a big enough of a drop. I'm pretty sure that 4th gear in autos is lower then the 5th gear in manuals. therefore, automatics have a higher top speed... which doesn't make any sense to me.
I can't recall my 70mph rpm off the top my head, i know that' i'm doing about 49 or 50 at 2000rmp.

Are you positive on this statement? I had my needle buried on my 5 spd...140+ don't know how fast it was for sure. I don't know if autos can do that...I may be wrong. And isn't 5th considered overdrive anyway?
