question about needles in cluster

i have a 97 SE and my car came with the ugly orange needles and i wanna swap them out for the clear ones that come with the earlier models (like my 95 GLE had).. now i have now problem with takin the cluster apart as i have done it a couple of times, my question is how do you replace the needles.. in the past i have tried to pull on them slightly and i got scared that i might break somethin so i stopped but does anyone know the correct method of removin them w/o breaking anything.??
thanx..
