Does anyone else's Max Hum?

I know this is a dumb question...but when it's cold and I don't let my car warm up b4 I go to work..it makes a humming sound somewhere from the front...I have a 5 speed btw...dunno if its power steering or clutch? Hopefully I am not alone on this one.

Thanks,
Nick

how long has it been doing it for? mine used to make that noise when it was cold for about a week, then my alternator failed. it was the bearing that was making the noise. just for grins, i would put a voltmeter across the pos. and neg. battery terminals with the car running and make sure you're getting at least 13.8 volts... that may be the problem???

I have a similar sound on cold mornings as well. It's very intermittent and it seems to be more audible from inside the car. My thoughts are that it could be a belt tensioner or another pulley. I'm praying that it's not the timing chain tensioner. Good luck.

My AC/heating fans hum. Not really loud, but it's annoying.

I get the same thing, and it's definately linked to cold weather...could it be that one of the belts stiffens in the cold?

My exhaust hums

Either way, I get that humming sound from the front too, and it goes away after the car warms up. It most likely has to do with something under the hood that stiffens up, or does something strange when the car is cold.

Yeah it does go away, and it only happens if I'm running late and don't give the max time to warm up a little...just wanted to make sure this was something normal...also I just had the recall alternator done last year..but I will check my volts anyway to make sure

Yup same thing here, does yours go away though? Mine does go away after the car warms up a bit...u really think the timing chain tensioner would make that noise? I hope not

I have this only when taking off from a stop in cold weather. I don't think it is the timing belt tensioner since it is only from a stop for me. It is somewhere in the transmission. I just thought about something, what if it is condensation on the flywheel. The flywheel is warm then water condenses on it as it cools. At start up we here a hum due sliipping from the water on the flywheel. Just a thought?

I'd have to concur here, my car used to do the same exact thing when I started it up, and then a month later the alternator went. New alternator = no more humming.

Yes, my noise does seem to disappear when the car is warm, but I sometimes hear it at stop light/signs while the car is at idle.
I also doubt that it's the timing chain tensioner, but I'm reluctant to rule out anything until I know exactly what it is.
