Hey, all...please help, I've a car I need info on

I'm over here from the 5th gen forum, needing some help and info on a 4th gen that might have to be gotten rid of.

My brother in law suffered a major heart attack 20 days ago. Major as in being dead twice and twice brought back and all that. Due to blood flow loss and drugs he will likely lose lots of toes in both feet & will have other permanent issues to deal with.

His car needs to be disposed of as the plans are for him to relocate with his parents -and I have no idea what it's worth, hence this plea for help and info.
And yes, I did check Edmunds and all that, I just would like a bit more savvy from Org members.

The car is a 1997 SE five speed. Body and paint in very good shape, it's that medium-dark blue/grey color. The engine sounds excellent, tranny, clutch and suspension are also fine and tight. The downsides: looks like the starter is bad as it sounds wierd when cranking, the brakes need work (warped rotors), and I think it has a bad rear wheel bearing. The car has 135k miles and is located in New Market, Virginia...om Interstate 81 about two hours west of DC.

What do you guys think can be a reasonable asking price?
Thanks
Galo

Sorry to hear about your brother in law.

As far as the car goes, probably around 6, maybe 6500 for it. I would fix the problems first, then sell it. I bet you could get more money that way.

that would help but the mileage would still depreciate the value of the car on a private sale.

Thanks for the info & kind words.....

The car owes no less than $7900 bucks -if you can believe it. It's a classic case of someone with very bad credit getting into a car at loan rates that approach usury hence the payoff of principal is slow as molasses.

It might just be better to let the finance company just repo the car and be done with it, methinks...

Thanks again,
me

If you let them repo it they'll screw the credit rating of the person on the loan...

Nupe, I know where you're coming from with the mileage. Depending on the condition of the car, and the type of person buying it, it may not. I bought my 95 with 120k for 6900, only because the rest of the car was in mint condition.
