Input on Engine Knocking and Oxygen Sensors?

I have a '95 GLE with about 160,000 miles. My "check engine" light recently came on and after doing the diagnostics I was told that my Engine Knocking sensor (P0325) and one of my Oxygen sensors went bad. I was told I needed to replace these sensors (both Oxygen sensors) for roughly $900 parts and labor. I was hoping to get some additional insight from other Maxima owners/mechanics to see if I should/need to invest this much money to replace these sensors.

My car is running fine, I do regular maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups, etc), there's no engine knocking (I have always used premium gas), no other odd noises, and my exhaust/emissions appear to be fine. My car is getting old and I'm just looking to get as much as possible out of it before I look to buy a new Maxima in a couple of years. If anyone has any opinions/insight whether or not I should do this maintenance...the input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kory Gutrich

oxygensensors.com for the O2 sensors. They cost about $60 each and you can change tem yourself. The knock sensor code is cause by the O2 sensors

Agree u!!
Just change the O2 sensor and reset the ECU, then the KS code will gone.

Thank you all for your comments!

Yeah...I agree...I think that guy was smoking something for a $900 job to replace a couple of sensors.

I'm going to look to replace the 02 sensors myself and then see if the Knocking sensor needs to be replaced.

Thanks again for all your advice.

Which O2 sensor code did you get? If it is 0707 (rear heated O2 sensor), you don't even have to replace the sensor if you don't want to except to get rid of the light. The rear O2 sensor plugs into your cat or right behind it and is used to monitor the cat. It does not affect closed loop operation of your engine like the two front O2 sensors do.

Has anyone had any luck with NGK O2 sensors? I'm very skeptical with Bosch or any other German-made electrical items on Japanese cars. I've noticed that Bosch tends to be great on Euro and some domestic cars. NGK and Denso tend to work best on Japanese and some domestic cars. I was pretty bummed when my stock sensors went out at 40K miles.

BOSCH makes the OEM sensors for our cars. Use their sensors, but not their spark plugs.

If you take your car to any Nissan dealer, and the codes say you need an O2 sensor and a knock sensor, you will find out that they are going to charge $900 regardless of where you go. It sucks, but if you don't want to do it yourself then I guess what else can you do? =)

If you don't want to do it yourself, get the O2 sensor first and let a local shop install it. Should be about $65 for labor. Maybe the KS will go away after the O2 is replaced. Check ECU to be sure.
