Windshield cracked : How to fix it??
A few weeks ago, out of nowhere a rock comes pummelling down ontop of my windshield from a big rig driving infront of me (damn trucks).
Anyhow, it didnt leave any noticeable damage, or so i initially thought.
Then, as the days went on, i began to notice a crack at the point of impact. A few more days went by, and the crack was very noticeable at this point.
Now about 2-3 weeks have passed since the incident and im beginning to worry.
The crack is about 6 inches long, running from the very bottom of the windshield up. I want to do whatever it takes to either fix it, repair it, or stop it from going up any further.
Any suggestions would help big time.

Mine was just recently replaced after it started cracking down the middle (no idea why, didn't notice anything hitting it). Insurance company payed for it, including call out costs for them to come to my house (which was a 40min drive 
). Not sure if it's OEM or not, but the quality of this screen appears to be better then the original, my last one seemed to be a defective one as when it was clean, you could see faint airbubbles between the laminate, which degraded vision in nighttime driving 
When they replace it, you can't drive the car for 5 hours or more while the glue sets, so plan on not having it for a whole day
As for price, it was NZ$600 (US$362).

. You don't have your car in your profile, so I just looked up 95-99 Maxima windshield, and there are a whole bunch that came up between $75 and $150. They will ship it to you really cheap too. Call for a quote.

Theres A Trick That Will Work. At The End Of The Crack Put Some Crazy Glue Just A Drop Inside The Window It Will Stop

Yeah, just check with your insurance company. If you have the full glass coverage, like I do, you are good to go. But if they make you pay your deductible, you might just want to wait. You might want to wait a little while anyway. It is not hurting anything, unless it is in your view, and you could just wait until closer to time to get an inspection. That way you don't shell out the money, and then get hit again with rocks and do it all over again for inspection.
You should be able to get it totally replaces with a good windshield for about $140-$150. No more. Just check around, and tell the lowest price that the other place it doing it for that.

The only thing I'll mention checking on is how your insurance company will look at this. I have state farm. I had a couple windshields replace on different cars. I would not get the chip fixed and eventually they would crack and I'd get them replaced. I had, and you'll see why I say had in a minute, a $0 deductable on comprehensive (windshield falls into that) and a $250 dedutable on collision. I recently received notice, state farm will now only let me carry $500/$500 dedectables because of too many claims. I have 2 claims that were collision under $700 because a couple of my cars were hit while parked. the rest were glass related. I have 10 claims total over the last 15 years and that's appareently too much for them. 3 of my 10 are for new windshields and 5 of the 10 are $50 chip repairs. The whole reason I got chips done was while waiting at the claims office once for one of my collision claims I saw a sign that said "don't wait until that rock chip becomes a crack. We'll take care of it for you" It explained how it's better in the long run and so on. After getting notice about my deductable change I contacted my agent and asked him why. He said State Farm's standard policy holders have only one glass claim every 10 years and I had way too many. What the ?. Do they actually dirve and if so where? I' m ready to change companies but they all suck and will screw you any way they can. Insurance is simply a prepaid loan and when you take an "advance" for a claim you get screwed on your rates to repay it double.
Sorry for the rant. Just check into it a little first and see what the long run consequences could be.

First of all, where are you going that it costs $50 to get a chip fixed. You are getting s c r e w e d! I pay no more than $20 for chips to be fixed. Try Safelite Auto...I don't know if they have one up there for you, but I think they are national...and they will hook you up.
Second, I totally can relate to the too many claims things. I think it was when I was with USAA Auto Ins when they kept threatening to drop me if I don't stop the claims. Well, they were pretty much all rock chips or windshield related stuff. I agree with you, techie, where do they drive? I mean, you cannot go just down the street here without some kind of a truck throwing a rock on you.

Mine got smashed by the kid hitting a home run next to my work. His parents paid for it, so i didn't really look around for prices, it was about $250. Oh yeah, they changed it the same day, that's why the price could be more.

Yeah, but if you just got your inspection a couple of months ago...you should wait a little while so that you don't end up buying two windshields before the next inspection.
