5th Gen Muffler on a 4th Gen

Has anyone done this? I've heard of some people trying this out because of the variable back pressure feature of the 5th Gen muffler. But I'm just not sure how it would look on a 4th Gen. Is anyone has pics, that would be awesome.

I've got one on mine. I'll try to take some pics of it tonight. Unfortunately, I don't have the chrome surround around the tips so it doesn't look as good as some.

Dave B has a pic on his cardomain site.

If I remember correctly, try to cut the inlet pipe off and redo with a 2.25 or 2.5". I think the stock is 2" and might be a touch too restrictive at that point.

I hope for your sake it will sound better than the stock muffler, cause i had y-pipe ,high-flow cat and b-pipe with a stock muffler and it sounded BAD! it was like a fart noise but a putter. I first thought it sounded ok from inside the car , and then i heard it from the out side and i was p!ssed. I hope your 2k wil sound better.

ok kids , this is no Fart Can muffler!@%&! I have had mine on since 08/02 to present. It is combined with stock setup ( simply the muffler shop torched off the old 4h gen and welded on the 5th gen ). The sound changed to a more noticeable tone ; no it is not a Greddy and yes it sound and look better than the rusty stock exhaust .
Take a look at my webpage , oh and yes the tip is twisted a bit from misalingment.
Goodluck.

well is the rest of your exhasut stock?? cause right after you get a y-pipe and b-pipe the tone will change to crap on a stock muffler. I think it will be the same way on a 2k muffler.

The common denominator: do you have a resonator? If you do, the muffler (either 4th or 5th gen) will sound OK. If you are not running a resonator, the 4th Gen muffler will sound like CRAP and the 5 gen muffler will sound worse. Since the 5th gen has a bypass that is only supposed to open for higher than normal exhaust pressures, it will be constantly flapping open due to the percussions of the exhaust hitting the muffler.

I have a 5th gen muffler, Y-pipe, High flow cat, b-pipe and ran it without a resonator for about a month. Before that, I ran the same exhaust through the original 4th Gen muffler. I thought I blew it apart.

I was emberassed to drive it. With either muffler. After I installed the 5th gen mufffler, the valve was popping open, making a 'crack' or 'pop' sound, when the car was just idling.

After the resonator was put on, it sounds nice. IMO. It has a good healthy note, not too muffled and not too ricey.

When my 5th gen muffler was customized to fit my car, the only piping from my stock muffler was used--bad idea?

what i have: budget y pipe
budget straight pipe
resonator
budget b pipe
5th gen muffler

Thanks...that's exactly what I was gonna ask. I plan on getting the resonator. Also, did different 5th Gen years have different exhaust tips? I was think more like in this picture here of a 2002:

I'm just not sure how the dual tips would like like on the 4th Gen with the dimple in the bumper for only a single tip.

I have a magnaflow resonator, it is the reason my exahust sounds better than alot of other peoples. But i still think the 5th gen muffler is gona sound bad if you have fun all the other good stuff, mines made a putter noise i cant even expalin. In the car it sounded nice as hell but when my friend drove my car and i heard it i was like wow! Hope fully the flap on the 5th gen muffler will stay open or somehing and elimate the tone.

And for those of you that have a 5th gen muffler , have you ever heard it outside the car??

I love the way my 5th gen muffler sounds on my 4th gen. My exhaust includes a y-pipe, RT cat, and 2k muffler. The 2k muffler has a healthier sound than the 4th gen muffler and it's slightly deeper at all rpms. At idle it has a slight burble. I plan on getting a Magnaflow resonator and replace the nasty crimp bend.

Here's a pic:
