Annoyance: Fuel Gauge related, question for all 4th Geners

So, my Maxima is in immaculate condition mechanically and visually. I love it. The only problem I have is this minor annoyance: When my car is turned off, my fuel gauge reads a certain amount. Then after I fire it up and drive it around, the needle just bounces around a range of about an eighth of a tank. I can live with this problem, but it really confuses me as to when I REALLY need to put more gas in it. I understand that the gauge can't be accurate at all times as movement in the fuel tank causes the reading to be different than the true volume, but is the range of inaccuracy from normal driving this drastic for everyone else as well? If so, when is the needle reading usually the most accurate? Is it when the car is parked and turned off for a while?

yeah its ridiculous, you never know how much gas your really using cuz it bounces around with every turn, i was wondering the same thing, one time i made a sharp turn, like really whipped it, gauge went from quarter tank to below E for like 10 minutes, i thought the gauge was broken..bothers me plenty, i thik its most accurate when your cruising at steady speed for a while, cuz i think the fuel pressure it accurate and the fuel is jumping around as much. just my .02

I never experienced that but I have notice that when ever I get an "E" reading I have about 3 gallons left to .8 of a gallon. Strange
