replacing front axle
i ripped my front right cv boot a while ago, and im at the point where when i turn i get that loud clicking noise and need to replace the front axle. i got an estimate of $170 for parts and labor. how easy would it be to do this myself? is this something someone would do themselves? i have access to a jack and grease pit. what would i need to buy? would i just have to go to a kragen or autozone and get a front axle? thanks.

If you have access to a grease pit, there is no question. You should save youself 100 bucks and do it yourself. I assume you also have access to an impact (air) wrench... correct? You'll need it or a VERY long beaker bar and a buddy to stand on the brakes while you take the axle nut off.
Get a Haynes or Chilton's manual if you don't have one. Find the drivetrain section and read the parts that pertain to axle removal before you tear into it. This is so you can assemble the tools needed so you are not caught without them.
I would buy the axle and the axle seal. The seal will replace the one that is located on the transmission end of the axle.
Good luck.

www.Raxles.com - SELL awesome axles... All Raxles CV axles come complete with NEW joints, and a limited lifetime warranty to back it up!!
Marty is awesome too! Oh, did I mention they're high performance axles as well! ;-)
when we replaced our axles you could so definitely tell the difference... ours must have been totally shot, but the car just felt like it had a spring in it's step so to speak.
I highly recommend Marty's axles and the prices aren't bad either and considering you're buying a totally brand new product and warranty, you're set!

that's his website address .... give him a call he's a really cool guy!
Chilton's has more information than Haynes and you can order it from amazon for about $13.... I had found a place online that sells if for $8.95 - if I find the site again I'll let ya know.
