shortened automatic shifter...

for those with an auto tranny, anyone on here ever try the shifter from an auto 300ZX? I was looking at some pics on ebay at both, and it looks like the auto shifter from the 300ZX is alot shorter than in the max. I have no idea if they are at all interchangeable, but they look very similar, just thought it would be an idea for those of us who are looking to shorten the auto shifter but keep the stock look(myself included, lol!) If it works, i think it would look really good.

You can shift from Park to Drive .08 seconds quicker.

Just kidding Dayle97SE. I actually think that sounds like a unique and interesting mod. I just couldn't help myself though.

I say, if it isn't too much money for you, buy it and do an experiment. If you are mechanically inclined in the least and have some tools, you'll be able to make it work even if it does not 'bolt on'.

If you get in there and realize it's not worth doing, you can resell the shifter on ebay. THEN, you can probably be the first guy to deny the possibility that a auto 300ZX shifter bolts onto a 4th gen auto Maxima (for what that's worth).

honestly, it would be purely cosmetic, no real function, I just thought it would look better, a little sportier, I know I sound like 5 speed wannabe, lol, i'm not fortunate enough to have a 5 speed, lol,

This guy has the right idea. Custom fabrication of the shiftknob cannot be difficult due to it's simple mechanics.. not like you're designing a variable intake here lol. Get a dremel, cut off the main shift stock, then cut down the lock pole to a little higher so you can still push it with a button.

Here I go again....

Now way man... don't belittle your idea. I really do think it's a cool and worthwhile mod. If we lived in the same area, I would definitely offer to help out.

Actually, I have a wannabe short throw shifter....

Dremel tool, 4 cutting disks, two hose clamps and two peices of scrap metal (for splints)... BAM! I have me a hacked shifter. Still one of my favorite mods.

Purely cosmetic and no real function? Heheh... good. kind of like my blue clock mod or my blue security light mod? Oh, and that chameleon paint on my valve cover? I think that's why most of us are on the org... the real enthusiasts are here to try something new and invent new ways of making our rides our own. Go for it.

It's the little mods that set each of us apart from everyone else. I mean look. Everyone around here rolls on rred/clears, dropped, and a Stillen lip it seems. It's the little stuff that make us different from everyone else. And I'm not complaining about everyone's car looking alike. We're just limited on what's available. We drive a Max after all. I say go for it. You'll be the only one with it, and that's what's important.

I LOVE it. The sound is sooooo nice. Of couse this is only my opinion. But I love being able to cruise around town and down the highway and not hear it. But under WOT it sounds HUGE!

It is a knock off Injen intake but I got it from Budget actually, not ebay. Couldn't tell you the differences as I have never seen the ebay one first hand.
