Curious 4th gen vs. 3rd gen ve

Hey sorry if this has already been posted. I'm sure it has but I read till my eyes are numb trying to find it. And I don't have a bank acount to donate yet. So what would win stock vq or a stock ve. Both 5 spd and at the track of course.

Depends on too many things. Once get a bank account, you'll find plenty.

I say that the 4th gen would win. I remember reading the C&D article in 94 when the 4th came out, and it said that the new car is better than the older one in every aspect. The only negative on the 4th gen is the NON-independent rear suspension, but that's only on paper. On the track, they (C&D) could not find any disavantage of this money-saving rear suspension. The tested vehicle was and SE 5 speed.

I think you are just guessing.

Shift_VQ it depends on many things, but I know stock for stock the VE will have the advantage the longer the race goes on.

the ve stock weighs around 3200 lbs while the vq weighs at 3000 something pounds and the vq has more low end torque. My friend has a 90 max 5 spd and he says my car pulls harder during lower rpm's.

My vote will be for the vq stock for stock

All depends. In general the VQ is probably a tick faster. Question to you. Can you drive decent?? Are the two cars functioning correctly? Don't assume both are working in peak condition because chances are ONE of them won't be.

Because even if you have a VQ, if you can't drive, you will lose to a good VE 5-sp driver.

So the slight differences aren't really revelant. Your driving skill is. Especially when you can't ask "well let's imagine I was driving both" because you can't

You can always search Yahoo or Google or whatever to get stock specifications

200 lbs is nothing really, and for every 100 pounds u take off ur car will be .1 second faster.... but i still think the vq would be better but i donno it the long run. And what's the bank accont for i got one, what would that do for me?

Just saw your location alb NM, hmm, I'm abit North of there, Los Alamos

And usually that's the rule of thumb, for every 100lbs, you gain ~.1 sec, but .1 is alot of distance when racing, a carlength or so . . .

Battle of the Maxima 3.0's good readin'

The 4g is lighter and the VQ is torquier. But the VE with its variable valve timing and intake manifold has a slightly better top end and can give a VQ a good run on the highway or at higher speeds.

i owned both cars, i had the 92 se with the 190 hp,, and it was very good on the top end.. i also owned at the same time the 1996 se five speed .. i let my brother drive the 92 and he would pull on me slightly..
i was a little shocked but they say its because the 92 have a variable
timing which gives it a lot of pep.. but after i modded the 96 oh lord...
i also modded the 92 and it was devastating also but not like the 96.

I'm not guessing. I was just telling you what I read in the C&D's article in early 1994. You can read it yourself. Whether you believe what they reported in the article is none of my concern.

Yes manual to manual it will be close with the 4th gen getting out ahead and the 3rd gen VE coming back in the long run, I mean long run 85mph +. Now auto for auto the 4th gen auot would kill the VE auto, that thing was a dog off the line and just wasnt impressive. I have seen 89-94 GXE's pull on a few VE auto's to 65 mph or so, even had a tape of it a while back.

yup, i could believe that. 4G VQ's manuals crap out very noticeably above 80 without the variable runners or timing.

The VE pulls better (stock vs stock) when the rpm gets into the higher ranges. Since 1st and 2nd is so short, the difference doesn't make itself apparent until sometime in 3rd gear. So at about 70, the VE will start gaining as both maximas wind out 3rd gear.

The VE30DE wasn't introduced until the 1992 model year. No 1991 year maximas had it.

I don't think this information is accurate. The VE was not introduced until 92. From 89-91 the GXE and SE (auto and 5sp were the VG 160hp 182 ft/lbs)
