Who Here Has a Functional Hood Scoop?

Couple of questions for people:

1. Who has a functional hood scoop on their 4th gen?
2. Where and how did you get/install it?
3. Does it have issues with water entry?

Thanks!

I'd highly doubt anyone (in their right mind) would put a hood scoop on the Max, unless for some ungodly reason it was needed.

i have seen a few on cardomain (don't like the way it looks )
it looks like a subaru ,and to make it functional i would have to be
in the corner where the intake goes and that looks very weird
just my opinion "opinion's are like a$$ holes every body has one
and they all stink"

It wouldn't necessarily have to be to the side, it could be dead center with different piping to the engine. Also, I have seen one or two decent looking hood scoops on 4gens.

it would be functional for people with turbo/supercharged setups that heat up quickly

me!

I have one but its not that much effective.
If i forced air onto the Cone filter it would probably do something. I have an APEXI dry filter now so it would just waste a 90 filter real fast IMO.
It does cool the engine a little and i have a foam against the grill 'inside' the scoop but even thats a PITA to get out and sqeeze watter outta after a hard rain. I seal the intake when it snows and winter for now. Summer.... Paint.#1 Priority .

see cardomain for cuts under the hood. Ive kept the braces there for support and it looks much cleaner now. i need more recent pics.

It does not have to be on the side. There are lots of hoods that are two layers and direct the air to wherever the filter is. I am sure someone can make you one out of fiberglass.

There was a guy with a white 3rd gen at the CT meet with a functional hood scoop. It would've looked alot nicer if he had cut out the hood perfectly and fit the hood in squarely but he basically made a hole and put the scoop on top. I would be worried about water though, I wouldnt know how to get around that.

bobjohnson has the best i've seen so far, but i think the maxima was made for it's smooth lines, and for it's sleek/clean look. the hood scoop just disrupts those lines IMO

that's a good point about the water, but unless it's a huge amount, i don't see it being a problem. Just my $.02

Hood scoop is really only good for TMIC but the max looks like it has pleanty of room for a front mount. I would say that it really wouldnt do anything as far as forced air induction is concerned...unless you were goin like 120 MPH

You should see the scoop on Bolt007's (Rob) Maxima. His bodyshop guy did an amazing job. It looks exactly like the scoop you're see on a regular WRX. I'll have to snap some pics of Robs car because I use to think a scoop on the 4th gen wouldn't look good. I was wrong. Plus Rob's black GLE has shaved door handles, no emblems, 18" anthracite/ploished rims, Stillen front/sides, Skyline rear, tinted, and red clears.

Best scoop for us would either be right over where the intake is, coupled with a custom air box that mates to the hood when it's closed. A vent would actually look better on the side. The other one would be in the middle with a tunnel on the bottom of the hood sending air righ into the intake. We need a funcyional scoop unlike that useless crap they use on the RAM SRT-10.

Aren't those EVO vents for the hot air to escape from the engine bay?

Yeah those are very similar. Dont the sell this hood now? It's the same hood as on the Burnt Orange New body kit's.
Doesnt water just Pour on the Engine when it rains on those.? thats insane imo. cant say mine much better though.
Anyone else ever run without your Hood On? its amazing how faster it is...

If I remember correctly from my muscle car days, a functional hood scoop is good for only about 1 psi of boost at 100 mph.

With how efficient the intake runners are on our maximas you might be able to improve upon that. Also the aerodynamics are vastly improved. So take that number above with a grain of salt.

As far as I heard the mesh keeps the water out. I don't see the problem though. My friend has a scoop on his LeMans and never gets water in the engine.
