well this might be one of the last threads i post here, on saturday night i was driving home, going around a turn i hit some ice and i ended up doing a 180 and smashing into a guard rail. i got out scratchless, but my whole drivers side is messed up bumper to bumper. so the insurance company totalled it. does anyone know if i can get my mods off of it, without buying it back?? im soo ****ed that i lost my max, im looking into either getting a audi a4 or going cheaper and staying in the family and getting a spec v. thanks for all the help u guys have given me throughout the years

ey meng! Spec Vs aren't mexicano meng! :P :P

Sorry to hear about the max, I had a pretty close call today...no VLSD+patch of ice+pothole=SCARY ****

and yes, stay with a max. My dad's got an A6 2.7t...the reliability is terrible...and they're not fast, and A4s aren't that fun...you need to put a decent amount of cash in them first...and they're TINY...

well glad to hear you're ok. I just went through this on my other car...that accident wasnt my fault tho so her insurance paid out, but i basically took my car and stripped EVERYTHING out of it and a junkyard took it for free after. Didnt have to pay the insurance company anything. Now if you're car is worth more than mine was ($3300) then they might ask some for it...im not sure.

Hahaha, i was just messing around, im not trying to be racist, im just saying, its not japanese made like a maxima, so the reliability will differ. Never meant to say mexicans were bad or anything.

not to instigate, but it's "You're", not "Your". Go buy a Spec V.

j/k j/k j/k

Slowjoe: Before you decide on an audi, or a POS Spec V, buy a Consumer Reports car guide, and see how everything stacks up.

And are you looking to buy new or used? Because for what you'd be paying for a new audi or Spec V, i'm pretty sure you could get something like a 300ZXTT and have modding money left over. Fast + Reliable =

I don't think so, not legally anyway. IF you've got a check from the insurance company, then technically you no longer own the car. However, if the car is in like a salvage yard or something, like before the insurance company has had a chance to look at it, then i'm sure an extra $20 to one of the yard guys will give you a chance to get your mods back.

I've heard of damaged vehicles being taken to collision shops, and before the insurance company has a chance to look at it, the owner being given a chance to take what they wanted from the car, or being given the oppurtunity to make sure that the car was "totaled" by the time the insurance adjuster got there.

agreed, go for the 300z, that is if your insurance isnt too high at the moment, it will be plenty fast stock, not to mention the upgrades that will make it faster...

did the insurance pay you for all of the mods u put on the car if not u probably could get it all back but u got to put stock back on. i think i don't know for sure though. but i would defenatelly fight with insurance company and if they would refuse to let u get the parts ask for more money cause that money came from your pocket maybe mention a lawyer heh that might work .... good luck and sorry about your crash..

Yeah the insurance usually doesnt pay for mods unless you specifically pay more to insure them, like rims...

Also...Be carefull leaving your car with all that **** on it at a junk yard, ur **** will be jacked with the quickness...Not very usual but it still hapens, those tow truck drivers are shysti as well...I dont think you wana have to go to court over all that stuff lol...

If i were you i would go to the salvage yard and get that **** off your ride ASAP!!! The quicker the better... Cause if you wait and play stupid and call the insurance and ask everyone b4 you do it, chances are that they will tell you no...

I know this becuase my cousins entire audio system was stolen like this...$2k+ of stollen ****; JL w7, class D Mono block 800watt Rockford amp, Pioneer deck (the one with the dolphins n ****) along with pioneer premeir 6x9s and 6 1/2s in the front....Unfortunatly he had to go to court for about 6 months to get all that money back, he got it but it wasnt werth all that time in the end...

Take my werd 4 it....

If you can find a good low milage A4 that was not driven to it's death and has good service records, you should be alright. Audis used to be really *****y cars, back in the late 80's and early 90's. . . but 98+ A4's are good solid cars, I used to really want one.

When my daughter's 1990 Escort was rear-ended and totaled by insurance company a few years ago I bought the car back for about $200. Heck they don't get more than that for it from a salvage company, so it no big deal for them to sell it back to you. (I was able to get enough parts to use to hammer it back together well enough to run.. then I sold it, salvage title not a problem since it was already 10 years old).

Yours still runs/drives I assume so perhaps you can spend some of the insurance money for a pair of used doors, hammer out the big dings, and keep it on the road for the remainder of the winter? Meanwhile you can shop for another max and take off the mods, battery, radio, etc... Just a thought, don't know exactly what shape your car is in.

Understand that yes, an audio system will be stolen. However, unless the tow truck driver happens to be a maxima enthusiast, the Y-pipe will still be there....the rims, maybe not.

My friend got his blazer wrecked by a drunk b1tch right in front of my other friend's house. The cops asked us to stick around for the tow truck driver to take her car away since we were going to be there anyway. As soon as they left, we jacked her head unit and subs. It was sort of a "get well" present for him.......
