Loud Intermittent Chatter from drivers wheel

I have been getting an intermittent chattering sound from my drivers side front wheel well, at first I thought it was the axle, Which I had changed about 1.5 months ago, with a rebuilt one, I changed that same axle ,again, this weekend, and drove down the road, and the problem is evident again. The sound I am speaking about , didnt appear suddenly after the axle swap, So I don't really think, that was the original problem.

Now this problem happens I want to say when the vehicle or the moving parts get warm.

Sometimes I think by turning the wheel in either direction, I think the sound is affected slightly.

The sound happens some time when I am accelerating.

The sound really isnt affected by applying brakes.

The lug nuts and all related parts are tight.

I am trying to explain this as detailed as possible, so that I can get some educated responces.

btw, I am thinking that the problem might then be.

Front Caliper, or the caliper mounting bracket/system.

Please advise.

It could be a blown strut. My struts are all gone and the car rides like a boat, but I do hear a chatter-like sound more often than I'd like to.

I am sorry, I have brand new struts all around, and they are not blown.

I had a similar noise, it was traced back to a loose bolt on the steering box. Could it have been loosened during the axle swap?

I am sharing your same issues. I have new struts, springs, strut bearings, springs isolators, upper strut mounts and everything is installed perfectly and my alignment is dead on. My axles are in good shape as well so that is not the problem. About 1 month ago I replaced both rear wheel bearings/hubs due to there being bad. So pretty much everything is new or in good shape.

My current issue is in the front end and I get more of a loose spring sound mainly at low speeds when the suspension travels only a small amount. It is similar to a chatter but is definitely not brake or axle related. I am in the process now of replacing all of the bushings, swaybar mounts, endlinks, and both sets off the lower control arm with the energy suspension parts. I had also thought perhaps a lower ball joint may have been bad but with inspecting there is absolutely no play in this area.

I am very sensitive to noises in my car and this is one that is driving me crazy. I will post later after say friday when I get these on but for now I still have this loose rattling noise from the mostly front driver wheel area. If you have anything you would like to add be my guest.

By the way, maybe it could be a loose rack and pinion bolt, I did change this part when I changed my axles, as a matter of fact my front end is new also, I changed struts, springs, bearings, i even changed the passenger spindle, and a few misc parts, I too have checked both front wheels and havent found any play in any direction.

I am thinking It might be the rotor, and caliper, that is my last thought, besides going again and double checking that all bolts/screws/nuts are tight. I will keep you posted.

Hi I figured out that it is the bearing in the rotor/spindle/hub area, its toast. I will be replacing this over the weekend.

its the motor mounts, they tend to cause clutch chatter in my car, as well as some chattering noise in the engine bay. check your mounts, and if anything try to replace at least the motor mounts good luck.
