Someone Rear-ended the Max Sat.!!!!

I got bumped from the rear while driving in some lovely rain Saturday night. I don't think anything is all that major, but still it ****es me off.

I know I will have to get a new bumper cover, and the absorber is probably gone as well. My muffler sounds a little louder at lower rpms, like there is a hole or something in it. When I get it fixed, do you think I should just try to put a whole new muffler (I want to keep it stock) on there, or just see if I can fix the problem?

I don't have a digital camera, but I will try to borrow one to put some pics up.

It really doesn't look all that bad right now, but when you start to look more closely, you can see how everything was moved. The tolerances (gap) between the trunk lid and the rear quarter panel are different on the two sides, and there is a slight bow in the panel between the rear door and the back window. This bow in the panel, when straightened out, might need to be repainted. I don't know what else needs to be done underneath that we couldn't see, but I hope not a whole lot else.

I got some estimates that ranged from $1280 to $1390. The average of three was $1310. I decided to just get the money to come to me because I know someone that works at a body shop and can do everything that it needs. That way there is money left over to sand and repaint the front bumper. I have been wanting to get rid of all of those rock chips.
State Farm cut me a check for $1180 (about a hundred less than the others), but that is money in pocket. I think I will be okay.

got another question for you guys....you know I got my rear bumper repaired and then I got a 5th gen muffler. Well, the 5th gen muffler has dual tips, so I had to have a larger hole cut in the bumper for it to fit in there and not look retarded.

Well, I have been getting some guys to do it on the side that I know. They work at a dealership and have access to all the tools and stuff there, but they are helping me out because I know them. Anyway, I told the guy that I wanted the hole cut a little bit to fit the muffler that I got new. Well, I put the muffler on there before I took it over to him and then he cut the hole.....1/2 inch too high! I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but it could mean the difference between making it look good and sloppy. Well, I left it with them and went to work, and when I got back, I realized what they had done. Also, they had already repainted it. Do you think it is worth bit ching about it enough that they get me a new bumper cover and make the muffler fit since they didn't do it quite right. I mean, they did me a really good deal and everything else looks good other than that. Post what you think please...

I doubt they'll replace the bumper again and repaint it You get what you pay for, but half inch is not that big of a deal

Thanks for the info, JaTaN. I really do appreciate you sharing your opinion. You have a lot of posts, and seem to know what you are talking about(most of the time...j/k), so I take your opinion into consideration

so they cut it for you and painted it already? is it installed or? i doubt that 1/2" will be noticable really. you could always get smaller hangers and hang the muffler higher so no one would notice. post some pics of the job they did when you can.

I will, Jepht20, as soon as I can. I didn't know you could get smaller hangers or anything like that. I know it is not that big of a deal, but it is my baby, ya know? Anyway, I did have the muffler guy heat up the hangers that were already on there and bend them up as far as they would go. It still needs about a half an inch or more.
