Is salt really that terrible for paint/chrome/alloy wheels?

I've heard so many stoires about how bad salt (for the snow) is bad for the paint on your car, chrome (i have chrome wheels), and alloy wheels (it pits them). Is all this true? I know it's not good to have the salt on your car for 2 weeks or something, but will it hurt the car or anything if its on there for a couple days, because right now it's too damn cold to wash it all off my car.

Yeah, those look like stockers to me too. I just saw a sterling mist 97-99 Max with chrome dipped stockers at wal-mart. Looks odd, but not to bad...
Eric
It is bad, but not ultra bad. Think of how many drivers on the road have alloys and never wash their cars. I really like those 97-99 SE wheels on a Blue Max. Blue Maximas are somewhat rare around here. I would consider getting a spray bottle and spray some water on the wheels after you have been driving some-it will likely be so warm that it won't freeze-of course you could drive, stop for a second and spray that crap off, and then drive a bit and let the water fly off.

nice pic there nick. don't worry, my car looks exactly the same way. i'm at college right now up in the poconos, so there's gonna be snow on the ground till march or april, no joke.
also, to what ant96gle said, i was under the impression that carwashes are a big no no cuz of some chemicals they use and also all of the dirt on the brushes could scratch your car. is there another to wash the car yourself without turning into frosty?

i think it's kinda important to wash your car every now and then when salt starts to build up. that stuff will start to eat away at your wax and you'll end up with a dull looking finish. think of it this way, is there a point to taking a shower when you you're just going to get dirty the next day? the answer is yes if you're still thinking about it
I was in North Dakota for two winters, you have to wash your car at least every four days or salt will start eating away metal. If you can go into a car wash with a dryer or one that is inside a building that's heated.
I never had a problem with rust just make sure you spray off the underbody

yeah they are stock 16s chrome, not my stock though, i bought them. my car is an SE wannabe. i went to the carwash today and used the high pressure thing to get all the shiznat off. it was only on there for a day and a half.
I finally got around to washing my car today...I went to one of them self service ones and spray off the salt and dust that was on my car....I couldn't stand having salt damaging my paint job and all...I know my car will be dirty in a few days but I guess I'll be going back to wash again...
