How can I conenct LEDs to blink with my alarm?

I dont know if this is the right place to post, but lemme try anyways:

I want to conenct two LEDs to put on the dash, one on each side, so that they blink when my alarm is armed, sort of as a deterrence showing theives and people that I have an alarm. Is there a way I can connect them to do so? The stock LED (located at the left of the steering wheel) doesnt blink with my aftermarket alarm (Prestige), at least not that I have seen. Do I need mroe than just LEDs for this? maybe a relay of some sort? let me know thanks!

Well if you mean my stock LED alarm light, then I dont know, because like I said I'm not sure if it blinks, if it does then I would use the power signal going to it. But I dont think ive seen it blink.

You can add leds to the stock alarm led without problem. Just make sure you put resistors on the new leds and splice into the power and ground wires conencted to the stock alarm led unit. If done correctly, the new leds will blink at the same time as the stock alarm led.

The thing is, I have an aftermarket alarm, which is a Prestige alarm, and when it is armed, I dont think that Red light blinks at all, I could be wrong though, I would have to check it out, if it does blink then my questions are answered.

I dont think so, LEDs draw less power than normal bulbs, they also last longer, two little LEDs wont drain anything.

First...lemme say this thread belongs in the audio forum...so me==><==D1NOnly34

lol..

secondly...if you have an aftermarket alarm..does it have an LED? if so then you should be able to run another 2 leds off that lead...you'll need resistors like you did with the amp rack install...but don't forget what you and I discussed about solder.

If you don't have an LED with your aftermarket, and your stocker doesn't work with your new alarm...then bro...u are SOL.

hope that helps.

Well, actually, there is a very simple solution. I did this on my previous Honda. You can purchase a blinking LED at Radio Shack for under $2.00 (two LEDs in your case) and wire them up to 3 or 4 1.5V triple 'AAA' batteries. You simply need to solder a switch inline with the power source, then you can flip the switch any time you want to. The only tough part is finding a place to put the small switch. The batteries need replacing about once a year, depending on how much you use the LEDs.
