How can I take off paint from my tails?

I had my tails painted with some stained glass red paint, now my left side tail is having a hard time with the paint and it comming off. What can I use to take off the paint from the plastic without damaging the surface or making marks? Thanks

Well, I can tell you that you shouldn't use regular old paint stripper.

It totally messes up the plastic...

Sand starting with around a 300 grit till you get most of it off, then work your way up to 2000 or 2500 grit and use rubbing compound after....takes off the paint and brings back the glossiness

It will rough up the plastic a lot. But, as you move up to the 2500 grit range and use the rubbing compound, you buff it out. If you take your time, it will look as good as new.

i would try somthing like aceton from homedepot first, it worked for me when i oversprayed on tail lights, it may not take it all off but it'll def. take a decent amount off depending on how strong the paint is before you start sanding them

i was always told to take the tailights and bake them before doing the red/clear job painting.. figured you might give it a try.

The reason you bake them before is to open them so you can paint the inside. this guy wants to know how to remove the paint

Test it in a corner first....there are so many people saying different things, and you dont know what to do. I would try the liquid removers first in a small area to see if they're plastic friendly...if they dont work, then go for the sanding. The worst that could happen is you can ruin one light, and you can prolly find one in the classifieds for cheap

Listen Gas and Plastic isnt a good idea (think about that...oh yeah - NAPALM)...I have paint stripper that is safe on plastics and works awesome. I have an extra bottle if you want it. I'll sell it to you for what it cost me. PM me if you are interested.
