engine fan keeps running all the time while the car is on

I have seen this situation now for a few weeks where my engine fan comes on about 2 minutes after i start up my car, and never tunrs off. It has become an issue in the winter since the car never warms up past the cold indicator in the gauge cluster.

Can you help me diagnose and fix this problem?

Are you using your defrost a/c? If so your fan will be on.

Did you check your ECU for codes? do you have a CEL? You may have a temp coolant sensor problem.

Does your car run normal or is it really sluggish and slow?

The fan stays on all the time. even when i have defrost off.

My ECU has a code of 0503 (I believe solenoid valve) I plan to replace this coming weekend. CEL is on. I reset after geting ECU code, but it came back on.

The car runs normal. Not sluggish at all.

I am getting about 350 Miles for a full tank of 93 octane gas. I dont have any mods.

Uhmm 0503 is a front O2 sensor and i'm pretty sure that wont make your fans stay on. Check that code again because i think you read it wrong.

I want to bet that you have a 0103 code for eng coolant temp sensor.

I will recheck. If it turns out to be the eng coolant temp sensor, where can i find information for replacing this part?

Just follow the upper radiator hose going towards the engine. There will be two things sticking out of it, the first one (which is closest to the radiator) is the temp. sender unit for the dash engine coolant temp. guage. The second one is the sensor itself.

I've encountered this situation before and it is possibly a radiator leak, a faulty thermostat, or a failing waterpump.

I think from all the responses I have seen, I will check the following:
1. Replace Coolant Temp Sensor
2. drain and replace coolant
3. Check for radiator leak
4. Check thermostat
5. Check waterpump

Thanks for your help. I will let you know if any of this works.

I unplugged/plugged the connector to the coolant temp sensor and now the fan is working as it should. I will be doing the rediatr flush over the weekend.

I would still replace the coolant temp sensor as unplugging and plugging it back might have wiggled some thing internal that was faulty.
