Auto to Manual Conversion Questions

What would I have to do to get it converted? What parts will I need and how much will it cost?

Start there.

Your probably looking at about $1200 - $1500 total cost if you do all the work yourself. Quite a bit more if you pay someone else to do it.

going by the standard rate (at a dealership, aka Stealership) of about $60/hr, it's a 13 hour job, and would cost about $800 to be installed. That's not including the price of the parts needed. so add that to the what mzmtg estimated, plus about another $500 for genuine nissan parts, you're looking at roughly $2800 for someone to do all the work for you, and have a warrenty on the tranny for 12mo or 12,000 miles. Assuming you can get them to do it.

I actually just proposed this idea to the shop foreman at my local stealership. The guys there are really good about their pricing, and they know me and my dad by our first names, and vice versa. The foreman said, that no-one has ever wanted to change to a stick when their auto tranny has gone out, and they'ld basically charge me like they would for changing trannies in a car that had a manual before. then besides that, they would charge me dealer cost on the other miscellaneous parts. so the only thing left to do is find a 5-speed computer for a 95 for me

Your going to get parts from the dealership

Hell naaaah, your going to pay, just letting you know that. The shifter rods alone are over $300.00 you still need the rubber boot $52, the shifter itself the bracket, an assortment of bolts. Lets put it this way one of those bolts go for $7.00 a piece. You will need over 5 of them. The slave cylinder is $50 the master cylinder is $95. Good luck with the dealership. I hope they give you at least 40% discount since they are doing this for you and you get new parts which is a bonus.

Ill be visiting Raleigh pretty soon since I have relitives up there

wow, i guess the guys in High Point like me, because that's what they told me it would cost. they did source all the parts needed for me through the FSM (i think thats what it's called, long day), and they would be using a new tranny too...i guess i could lower the price a little from them by getting a Fidanza (sp?) flywheel and a better clutch.

When you come into Raleigh, i would really like to meet up with you, and ask you a lot of questions feel free to pm me...everytime i try to pm someone, my comp freezes up, or my internet screws up, i dunno why.

hope your dealer knows they will have to cut a big hole in the firewall for the master cyl and if they F up then you will either have a crooked pedal or they will probably stop right there and say opps.

Yeah man I was thinking about swapping but after talking to my mechanic who specializes in NISSAN he told me I'm looking at $600 for labor, and the parts are roughly $1,500 it comes in a kit. I need the flywheel, clutch, etc........... In total he said roughly $2000-$2500, I was like **** that, make my auto faster than a standard around here. But when I can or see the chance I will trade in my ride for a stick. Peace

There is no kit.

You have to source all the parts on your own.

No, you only have to drill a hole about 1/2 to 5/8ths in diameter for the master cylinder plunger plus two smaller holes for the mounting bolts. I don't remember it being too difficult to do. There's a removable cutout in the insulation material on the firewall to guide you. If you make a template then it's really easy.

THe kit is offered by a company for the mechanic, they find the parts, and sell it to him as a whole kit. Sorry if you misunderstood.

I'll ask him, its not brand new stuff, unless I guess it the flywheel and some other things. From what I understood, they gather all the parts he needs (used or new), and sell it to him as a kit or whole (thats the way he put it). Let me ask him how it works, he's very busy person, and I'll try to have the answer by tonite

Here's your best bet... Find a 95-99 5 spd car that is wrecked, this way you will have every single part that is needed for the conversion..after that part the rest of the car out..

That would be awsome. If their prices arent outrageous, this could be a valuable resource for all of us.
