Loud squeeling just after I start the car?

Not always, but a couple times over the last few days when I started my car there was that loud squeeling for a few seconds, and then it went away. I've heard it on other cars before. Does this just mean that I need a new belt?

squeeeeeeeeele

I had the same problem a few months ago. It turned out to be the power steering belt. Check the tension pulley and the belt an you will find your problem. DO NOT take it to a stealership to have it done, they will rape you. Have it done by your local shop or do it yourself.

I have the same problem but it's not a squeel, it's a loud noise that i can't explain but this only happens when it's really cold outside and starting the car after 24 hours or so. Do you have the same symptoms?

How hard are these belts to get to? I don't see them anywhere. Can I just adjust the tension pulley without taking a bunch of stuff apart?

I have similar problems. Whenever the car sits over night and it's cold, I get a loud squeel followed by a bad rattle (like something is lose, maybe the timing chain) on start-ups. I can never figure what that rattle is. I know that the squeel was caused when I clean my engine with the engine degreaser. The chemicals in the degreaser degraded my belt. I will change them out as soon as I get my Unortho. UDP. Anyhow, any of you hear a loud rattle during cold start-ups?

No, this noise is loud enough to make you want to duck down so people don't see you. haha

I had this problem last year. It was the starter motor dying. Kindof an ERRRRrr sound.

I replaced it myself and shes purring like a tiger now when I start her up.

You can try regreasing it also. Go here for directions: www.motorvate.ca

In case you haven't noticed, there's a nice thread starting about how to change these belts.

I had that same loud noise (not squeel) last year during cooler weather only and when the car had sat overnight or all day (a cool day). It was the starter solenoid not releasing fast enough. The noise got louder and after a few months turned into a grinding noise. I replaced the whole starter/solenoid assembly and the problem went away.
