Do you guys think a thin layer of this stuff would look good on a silver I30 like mine? I think it would go well with my gunmetal rims and dark tint.

Oh Dave, a light tint would look real nice on your car...more black is always good.
Don't use Nite Shadz, it's crap. This Japanese paint is the best I've seen. It's worth the rediculous $25 price.

I think your silver I30 will look fine. My buddy has a 94 Del Sol VTEV painted in S2000 liquid silver and he smoked the tails and it looks great. Remember, the 93-96 RX7s, regardless of color, all had smoked taillights.

As for the tint, are you refering to the windows? If so, they are tinted, but I shot my car at the wrong angles, wrong time of day (way too bright), and with the moonroof shade open. The windows are tinted 30% with a 15% 6" windshield brow. My windows typically look 2X darker. I'll take better pictures in the spring when I can really clean up the car and also have the lip redone to a more glossy black.

So does the company say anything about it being removeable? Or is that just your guess?

And yea, I was talking about window tint.

taillights are nice, i had the same idea. i did this to my old car a jeep grand cherokee. im sorry to hear you spent so much on the tint though. if you go to any hobby shop you should be able to find testors or model masters window tint spray paint. runs about 4 bucks a can and right there you would of saved 20 bucks. keep up the good work on the maxima.

A friend tried the Testors smoke paint and it gives a slight greenish hue. I tried the tint on my front cornering lamps and it gave them a slight greenish hue also.

Finger nail polish remover will remove the paint. I've done it. It just takes a lot of elbow grease and a terry cloth towel to do it. It's the acetone in the polish remover that removes the paint.

Looks great man! Congrats. Btw, have you noticed any difference in sound/performance, etc since you put on the 5th gen muffler? I am thinking it's probably just for show but I am definitely still a newb so I'm not sure.

The 5th gen muffler does emit a throatier sound and at WOT it's probably 30% louder than the stock 4th gen muffler. As for performance, it's hard to tell because mufflers give such minimal gains it's hard to know if they help or not (according to my track experiences).

I was wondering when you were gonna go ahead with the rest of the kit. Nice Work. Looks clean. They definately do look a tad flat, but obviously cameras do not do car mods justice.

Whens the carbon fiber hood coming? Any plans for that odd carbon fiber trunk? Also, have you considered the carbon fiber ionic lip to go along with your (eventual) hood?

Car looks really good Dave. Clean, black and fast...3 essential elements for the perfect max IMO. I wish mine was black.

I'm willing to bet he won't. Seeing his logic wouldn't really justify spending that $300 that the CF lip is going for and the beating a lip takes. Thats just my guess though.

The more I look at those tails the more I like them. I just wonder how they'd look on my car.

I saw the new pic of your car in your sig in another thread. I thought the old pics of your car didn't have the full kit, but I thought maybe I was just losing it.

Your car looks disgustingly hot now. The black with the smoked tails (usually don't like taillight mods) is off the hook. The rims even look better with the full bodykit. This is making me seriously consider a bodykit.

Nice work, the car looks fucing sick.

I was board last last night and I repainted the lip. The paint that was on there orginally was spray-on black bumper paint with flex agent in it. The problem was the paint was a little flat and it had a slight texture to it. I sanded the texture out and spray painted the lip with a glossy black. The paint I used this time didn't have any flex agent in it, but when I has installing the lip, the lip was getting torqued in various directions and the paint didn't crack so I think it will hold up decently. The lip now is a very close match to the sides and rear. Ahhh.. the advantages of having a black car.

For those wondering if I have tint, here's a better pic of my 30% tint on a cloudy day:

You'll also see that my front corners are smoked out at the time.

What kind of struts do you have? I have Intrax with KYB AGX with all 4 corners set on the softest setting and I love the ride quality.

Dave- Your car looks amazing!

I have a few questions about your taillights:
How many coats did you put on your taillights? Also is the paint real glossy or is it dull like it appears in the picture? Did you clear coat the tails? Did you paint the outside of the taillight and if so do you think they are going to hold up and not flake off or anything?

Thanks,

-Nick

2-3 light coats, semi-glossly, no clear coat, painted the outside, been on there for 2 years with absolutely no problems, this stuff doesn't flake off. Another black Maxima in KC did the same thing and his have been fine for two years also.

I saw your site and I'm definately doing the AE headlights on my 96

I have Konis on the front and AGX on the rear. When I had my Intrax, I had GR-2s on the rear for about 4 months and then were completely destroyed. Even with adjustable struts all around, SFCs, and rear strut mounts, my ride was still too harsh and uncontrolled for my liking over rough surfaces with the Intrax. The H&Rs are light years ahead of the Intrax in this department. I'm getting older and I demand more refinement out of my car. I'm sure most younger guys would be happy with the Intrax/AGX ride. I'm just picky.

are these tail lights legal?? I thought you had to have a clear white reverse light or something? Have you had any problems with the police because i am thinking of doing this because of the red/clear situation for us 95/96ers...

Def get some close ups of those tails!

As long as it shines white through the black (which it does) then its legal. You DO NOT need a clear white reverse lights. Cars like the 98-02 Accord Sedan and the latest gen Impala both have pink-ish reverse lights. When in reverse, they shine white...

You need to have a red reflector in the rear and on the side (the stock tails have those already). Your reverse light has to be white in color (it'll shine white thru the transparent black tint). Your turning signal will still be the same color so it's still legal

If a cop pulls you over, don't bother arguing with them b/c it'll get them mad and they'll start ticketing you for other things (clear bumper lights, etc...). Just take the ticket and contest it by mail Send them some pics and them some pics of Pontiacs (that come stock with tinted tails) and you should be fine... hopefully

I've never had a problem with the police and I've been running some sort of tinted tailight since 2000. I'm sure they don't even know it's something I've done because it looks factory. ALL factory still shines thru. ALL of it.

Sorry I didn't get some daytime close up pics today. We recieved snow and ice today and I stayed at work till after rush hour to avoid driving with the dipsh!t SUV drivers. I'll take my camera to work tommorrow and snap some pics.

BTW:

Did anyone notice the 97+ grill or the black painted foglight bolt access covers (to give the fogs a slight 97+ appearance)?

Sorry I haven't posted pics. We got snow and ice a few nights ago and now my car is a nice flat gray thanks to all the salt and grime on the roadways.
