Lowering the Max.. help

Org members,

I have some questions about lowering my car and I am a for suspension. I know this is a very heavy topic and I know that there are many write ups about it and what people think are the best set ups. I am unsure what to do because no one is in the situation I am in.

What I want to do is this: I want to drop the max 1.5 “in the front, 1.3 in the rear. But I DO NOT want do anything else with the suspension. (I have a fstb)

I know that people say to get the dust boots from cattman when doing springs, which I am going to do. Is there anything else to get?

Also, I have looked into 2 companies mainly, Eibach and H&R( any other suggestions?). I know that people say H& R are soft and Eibach are stiff. The reasons I have looked into Eibach is because I have a friend with a Z34 monte and he has the eibach and it rides very nice, also a bonus to Eibach is they sell the alignment kit to go with it which will take care of camber issue that another org member is dealing with now. I don’t know much about H&R other than they are just a little better then the SE stock springs.

My main Goal is to just do springs, have a dropped look and have better handing than stock. What I don’t want is to have the ride of a civic that bounces up and down after every bump or speed bump. What should I Do ???????

Any help would be great, I have put a lot of time into figuring how to state my issue, and I hope that member will take some time and help me.

Thank you!

If you get lowering springs, I highly recommend you get aftermarket struts to accompany the springs.

if dont get stay stock, your ride will suck. Also, your struts will blow within 3 months and you will end up getting new ones anyway. best bet? kyb agx's or gr2's for cheaper option. whatever you do, dont stay stock struts

kyb GR-2's (260) and maxspeeds (100) could be had for around 360 shipped off ebay if u looked. Thats what I was looking to do drop is 1.5f/1.3r. U will need to install and get car aligned tho which adds up.

Stay with Eibach or H&R springs. They are the best sport springs you can buy for our cars. They maintain ride quality while increasing handling and overall looks of our cars.

You absolutely have to use aftermarket struts with sport springs. Don't splurge here, get the best strut you can. KYB struts (AGX and GR2) ride stiff and harsh at times. Tokico makes 2 struts for our cars, one called Blue Performance and another one called Illumina. The Blue Performance strut is an OEM replacement and really don't do well controlling sport springs. Tokico Illumina's are adjustable struts and are currently the best strut on the market for our cars. They ride increadably smooth even when coupled with sport springs. They are adjustable which means you can dial in a soft caddy like ride for crusing on the highway or dial in a firm setting for a true sports car like feel. They are not harsh at all and do a fantastic job of absorbing bumps and keeping quality sport springs under control.

Eibach/Tokico Illumina or H&R/Tokico Illumina are hands down the two best combinations of spring/strut you can install in your Maxima.

There is also a Tokico Suspension kit offered by Custom Maxima. That kit with the Illumina struts is also a very nice setup and it's priced right too.

It would improve handling but wouldn't be as efficient as lowing your car 1.5". Lowering the center of gravity is the best thing to improve handling

RSB will add oversteer. Some guys on here say you should have some grippy tires if you push the car hard. The RSB will snap the rear end around a lot easier.

I can attest to this setup, very smooth and comfortable.

When you say $500 for a dropped look, you might not realize how much better the car feels and handles when lowered properly (and yes, it looks much better too).
