window making bad noise...possible salt and/or ice problem..help please

my window is making this god-awful noise whenever i move it down and back up. i've been avoiding using it but i still want to fix it. i'm wondering if maybe the salt and ice all over my window had anything to do with it. do any of you think it is most likely dirty from that? how should i go about fixing this? should i take off the door panel and look to see if there's anything/stuff in there and try to clean from there? i'm sure someone else has had this problem before...any help is much appreciated.

winter is kicking maximus' butt. from flat tires, to misfiring, to lots of other crap...it's really taking a beating.

It's just dirty. Get yourself one of those dust spray cans (the ones they use to clean your computer keyboards) and spray it on both sides. You might want to use a plastic knife to help pry it open a bit.

I agree with the can-o-air suggestion.

When you'er done I beleive (correct me if I'm wrong) that you use dry graphite lube to lube the channels...the type of lube you use in locks.

well i still have the noise. i even tried spraying wd 40, various greases and lubricants (don't be fresh!) and it still does it. i'm thinking i'll unbolt the window and hold it up high with the motor part way down on the track and i'll clean it as best as i can. not really sure what is making the noise but it's bad.

any other suggestions?

**UPDATE** - HELPING OTHERS IN CASE THEY ONE DAY SEARCH

well, after months of barely using my driver's side window out of embarassment and fear of damaging it, i fixed the problem. i almost bought a new motor for it but figured i'd give it one last chance to be fixed. i greased and sprayed wd40 again and no change, so i then took most of the door stuff off so i could get a good look inside to see what was going on. to make a long story short, i noticed that the cables that move the window up and down were rubbing together, not in their correct place. so basically, i unbolted the motor so i could have better access to it, i then put the wires in the correct place after comparing them to the passenger side and all is good.

short story - i realized the cables/wires were rubbing together and out of wack, fixed them, fixed my problem.

i am happy again.
