Right on. Though it sounds silly, many people actually aspire to making lateral moves, like "getting rid of the maxima and getting another 250+ hP FWD car!"

People do the same at work, they go through hurdles to get a new job, and it's just a lateral move. It's as if they're afraid to step up to the plate.

Unless one goes RWD, like G35, 350Z, 3-Series, it ain't no thing. Nothing worth mentioning at least.

BMW are clean if you can afford them I rather have a BMW than a Nissan anyday but I driive what I can afford. So if I can't afford a BMW, next best thing is Nissan/Infintiti.

If i where you, I would get a g35 sedan. those are cleans especialy with the modified front Infiniti sells. Looks sick and will smoke a Acura. NISSAN power all the way.

It's not even made by Lexus. A german tuner (forgot the name) transplanted the GS430's V8 in there and twin-supercharged it. It makes over 400HP to the flywheel. Potential M5 slayer. Chances of ending up here, slim to none...

Besides Lexus will stick the new 3.3 liter V6 in there before anything else

HarrisH nice choice. I like the styling. Let us know if you wanna sell some of your Maxima mods to help offset the cost of the new pimp ride.

Peace.
Actually if you can open your eyes and read *****...you will see at the thread topic it states TL-S. Its not like i was being an a$$ about it since i did put the lil behind the wall guy, but obviously you took offense. Too bad for you, get over it...

Anyways...They are nice cars. 270bhp is a wicked number to be pulling out of a 3.2L, granted its only SOHC. Styling wise, i like it over the G35 sedan, especially the interior. The G35 just cant hold a candle to the beautifully crafted TL's interior ( both of which i had the opportunity to sit and such at an auto show).

I hate anything that honda now, maybe a s2000 but eveything else I just wonna **** on, even on my parents car (99 V6 Accord). It looks nice from outside but inside it's all uncomfortable, and my max smokes it's *** like the vtec never kicked in. I hated my civic too.

I wanted to ask your opinion on something, all of you...

What in your opinion gets more attention, or in other words stands out from the crowd. A nicely modified 4th, or 5th Gen. Max, or stock 5 series BMW or TL for instance. And when I say modified I mean modified to the extent of Jay Sadler, Arrafio, Max4Speed and a few other members here who have gone beyond belief with modding. I mean I can easily pump 10-15K in my '97 Max and have everything except a bathroom. However, a Stock TL will just be well a TL that most other people will have. So this then relates to why I will keep my Max but hopefully modify it at a much slower rate than I expected because I will be paying for a new car yet again have a weekend car that's all show and ALL GO.

lots of good feeback for both sides can be found in this forum:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t151365.html

I understand your position, its a tough choice.
Styling wise, I perfer the Acura

but,
Performance wise, I'd definetly would give the G35 a close look.

I think Nissan's new interiors are still a little "ahead" for our time.

I would LOVE an 04 TL...those are beautiful cars, inside and out. Excellent quality, performance, etc. I'd be between a TL and G35 if I was shopping for a car in that class. Can't go wrong either way..

The new Hondas are best in class for doing what they were designed to do. An Accord wasn't designed to be a sports sedan it's meant to be a great family hauler and its the best you can get (although the 04 styling is bland-ugly). And the "maybe a s2000" comment...wtf the S2000 is one of the most fun and best handling cars you can find, especially in that price range. The new Acuras are impressing me a LOT...TSX and TL are great cars for the money.

I would get the G35 coupe, me and my dad test drove it, and it was awesome, the sales guy said he would put the G35, and i assume the sedan, against any car for "back for the buck," I know the coupe is not as practical, but it was real nice, and the m45 i think it is, that car is nice aswell.

sorry, that's "bang for the buck," and i would take the Z or the G35 coupe over an S2000, it's still a nice car, and came out before the other two, but nissan is a much better company, and their two car's out perform the S2000 as well.

well, if you want speed, i'd go with G35.
But you and I both know that lots TL's will soon be roaming the roads, meaning they'll eventually become a common car.
i would consider getting the G35 AWD.

I understand the point about not wanting to mod a car that is at 100K miles.
The resale values of an early 4th gen are not much past $5K.

The only thing a Maxima has over the TL is that the Maxima has a bit more interior and trunk space.

But the Acura has virtually every option imaginable. All Acuras come fully loaded. The only things on the option sheet are colors, transmission type, and navigation. The Lexus is almost the same. I believe the IS300 is soon to become the IS330 as the engine is getting a bit bigger. Both the Acura and Lexus are really great cars and can be equipped with a 5-speed stick.

Financially, a $5K car plus $5K of mods is still only worth $5K. One may as well spend that $5K mod-money on first-year depreciation on the new car.

i hear that man, that makes good sense, i wouldnt waste money on a new car when a used maxima is perfectly good to mod, those student loans are hefty for me so id just mould the max so if fits me like a glove

Couple things.
1. Coolmax, try posting more than one reply at a time or using the edit button. You did 3 in a row man. BTW, very good on the Infiniti is Nissan call. How long did that take you. The point he was making was that Hondas are **** engines plus **** bodies. So adding the A to it makes the TL a nice body with **** engine.

2. Cough...Cough...I'll have to mod the honda engine that i have because its not powerful enough to turn a door ****.

3. Good call. I'm at the point were my max is worth about as much as a box of cereal but its still fast, still looks insanely sexy, still runs, and still modable.

Why are threads like this so popular? We all love to debate. To each his own. That said, all that think Honda engines are good must die.

PS TL stands for Total Loss(of money that is)
You have a 4th gen auto, I'd very much like to see you "smoke" a CLS or TLS, that have "SOHC VTEC V6." They make SOHC because its cheaper, and DOHC isn't always necessary. DOHC tends to be able to rev higher because of less valvetrain mass, but when your talking mass-produced V6s that generally tend to rev between 6000rpm and 7000rpm, DOHC isn't a necessity. Don't go calling people newbz when you obviously need to do some research.

Like said before there is no such thing as TL-S for the '04 model. They have some A-SPEC BS with bigger wheels, a subtle body kit, and lowered. Suprisingly it lowered the car's 1/4 mile time by like .3s.

I was thinking about buying a TL for my next car too... Then I went to www.acura-tl.com and saw that just about every member is on their second or third transmission. Nice looking car though.

guys,

Just because we are on a max.org forum, we shouldn't have blinders and crazy biases with regard to other cars. We are all enthusiasts here, that's what brought us to this forum, so we should appreciate quality cars when we see them- even if they are not max's.

The new tl is a seriously nice car and whoever thinks that Honda engines are crap should reexamine. They are not great with Torque but in every other respect they are super efficient, decent HP, VERY low emmisions, reliable, etc. So they are not crap, they are just torque challenged.

Also, the max was a great car in it's 3,4, and even 5th generation but honestly I like a lot of cars out there a lot better now. Don't get me wrong, I love my 4th gen but I have no illusions that there are better, more luxurious, as performance driven, possibly more reliable cars out there for the money. I will probably move on to a G35 in the future when I get some money but that's only because the g is a much better car than any max.
