after replacing a couple motors I would like to do 10 plus motor swaps anyone else?

After pulling a couple of motors off and installing them back on the car it is a great challenge that I truly enjoy. To me this is fun, I love doing this ****. It calms my nervous or something. Anyone else with a shot motor would like for me to pull their motor? I live in Marrietta Ga. So far it took me right around 8-12 hours to complete the job. It feels good to pull that 400 pound broken VQ and installing another healthy VQ. The look on my face when it fires is priceless. I just got two more large snap on tool boxes since I am running out of space. But theres always space to pull a motor. I am about to order another motor to have as a spare.

5 speed swaps I about mastered those too. Just have to mess with two wires to get the back up lights to work. Tranny swaps are like air intake installs with a heavy 90lb thing full of gears. Between me and my younger brother we bolted just about everything on 96sleepers car w/in 8 hours. Bad thing is I had to leave so the axles were the only thing that did not get put in etc...

To encourage others, I started like all of you guys here on the org. Clueless as hell until I got ripped off by a shop. They charge me $500 plus dollars to lower my car. Oooh yeah. Another shop wanted $350 just to lower it. After those two shops I promised myself Id do everything on my own. Here I am. The only thing I somewhat nervous about is Nitrous. Got a kit w/a full bottle work on that some other day.

You guys let me know about pulling the motor. There are hundreds and hundreds of motors out there. just have to shop around!

I'm jealous. I'd love to learn how to pull and replace motor and trannies. I know it's not hard, but I'd like to have a bigger garage, Quik-lift, air tools, engine hoist, and a 3rd car while the other one is down.

BTW, did you install your turbo kit yourself?

Dave

oooh yeah, I installed my own turbo kit.

When I pulled my old motor I did not want to damage the good upper oil pan so I had to pull that one out. When I did my 5 speed swap I noticed my rear main seal was leaking. I had to grab the hoist to hold the engine while I pulled the upper oil pan out. Pretty scary been under there.

Having done both the motor swap and nitrous install...you've got nothing to worry about. The nitrous install is so easy (as long as you kinda know what you're doing with electrical work).

You come here to Marrietta, you send me some pics of the parts you have. 5 spd parts can take up to 8 weeks to get in if they are out of stock or back order items. It has happened to myself and other members that live nearby. And if your serious you can email me.

I think for me........its like I know how to do, and have done it........but after you do a few....its like well for me anyways I would rather have someone else either help me, or do it for me. Not for simple stuff like mods, and what not.......but like on tranny chagnes etc. I would just rather have someone else do it. Then again that might be becuase I'm always so freaking busy.
Anywho....Jaime....coming up withing the next two months. I need to install a new clutch and I will probably do the fidenza flywheel as well. About how long do you think we could do it in?? Can we do it at your place?

a clutch install can take from 4-7 hours. I done it in 4 hours because it was freezing when I did that. Yea we can do it at my place. Hopefully we can fix up my garage since is cluttered. Them mid size snap on toolboxes should free up some space. Seems like my 75 gallon tank may have to go to make space for my bench vise

ABK whenever you are ready to do your 5 speed swap let me know and we can work something out

that 6 speed tranny is very large and much more heavier then our tranny. It is also cable driven not hydrualic like ours. I am sure it would take alot work to get that thing to work. You also If I am not mistaken have to relocate your battery to the trunk. I changed a clutch on that 6 speed tranny and thats how I know. The starter is also located towards the front of the car.

Jay. Im definatley intrested in this with you.
Ive too been on carpart.com and Ive been considering a 70K 96' Engine but im reluctant Just B/C the 2000's are so LoW Mileage..

Anyhow. Are Engines & Trans Combos Easy to come by on this site as well. Id like to do both if we could. Ive been Searching for a Mechanic in my area do help out but Everyone has some Insane ideas for an engine swap.
I've Considered buy'ing an Extra Engine before replacing All O2 sensors and KS/ECTS/OilPress Switch/ Money money money. Yet a 70K engine costs $300.
Email me and lets talk about a price. Ive got 150k on eng & trans and lookin to do a swap the First of March or April depends on painting and weather though. kail63010@yahoo.com. Thanks Jay

you can have someone else do it for you locally

I never thought of flying out to install a SCer and clutch. You go figure. It was cold and fun though.

Jay - it's time to start exotic swaps, or restoring old classic engines

Wow...it's good to know that if my VQ suddenly goes before I sell the max, there's plenty of replacements in town.

in one day , day & a half. I can complete 75% of it in one day. It is very very tight under the steering column. Thats what slows me down. I can do it in two full days not one as long as all the parts are available.

If your serious let me know. You can drive down on Friday. Crash at my place all day saturday. By the time you resurrect from your deep sleep on saturday night the car should almost be done for sunday. I guarantee to have it done by noon that sunday. But Ill take you up on that challenge to complete it in one day as long as you have all the parts! Trust me I am always up for a challenge! Just let me know so I can schedule you and only you only for that weekend, I know I can strip that car in 4 hours, remember I wont be alone doing this. My brothers will be helping me. Thats why I bought 3 snap on tool boxes so they both have their own tools

My tranny swap took about 14 hours. 3 hours to take the car apart friday night. Jay25 came for 8 hours on Saturday, and then I finished up Sunday morning in 3 hours. It is really not all that hard, it was just tiime consuming especially since we ran into a few snags. (damn clutch lines)

If it was not for the hydraulic lines we would have set a record 11hours . That wont happen again, I promise myself that I was the test dummy for a 4th gen and my service advisor was the test dummy for the 5th gen. We have that under control

I went to school for this for a year and a half. Got all As and a couple of Bs in my classes. Since I was a E-3 in the Marines, I was hated on big time. So I was sent off to the desert for training and I had to stop I stopped in 97 and started back again on my own in 99 after getting ripped off. From there one thing led to another. I highly encourage to you to get under the car physically and understand the motor components. If you dont youll be lost in class and its boring when you dont understand. Alot of the material now makes alot of sense to me.

I am a supply clerk Marine and went to school for it. There are professional mechanics that I work with in the Marine Corps and they dont dare do what I do. One of them is currently in school and I know more then he does. WHen I talk to him he starts to understand what I am saying to him breaking it down barney style. He did fail the Supercharger and turbocharger in portion in his class. Geez that would have been a breeze for me. Find the best school attend it and give it 110%, fix on any car you can and after a while youll become a bad azzz and everyone will want to have you around. My little brother is 15 and probably knows just about as much as I do. Hes catching me and surpassing me knowledge wise since he attends the classes with ASE pros at his school.
