I did not know that NISMO made an STS (or anything, really) for the Maxima.
His feedback is good, however. Any impressions?

I find that hard to believe since my pacesetter is adjustable...to 80% shorter shifts if desired. Doubtful the B&M is set that low since it isnt adjustable. I have mine set at about 55% shorter shifts (2nd gear sits where nuetral used to be).
As for the rubbery deal, well i can say that when i installed mine i was shocked at how notchy it got. However, i was running with the upper cat shield on sometimes rubbing. Well i finally got sick of the shield, and i took it off recently. The shifts are night and day now. Most of the notchiness and difficulty getting into gear is gone since it isnt rubbing.
As for the shifter in question. I know NISMO is coming out with parts for the maxima through dealers, so i heard. I know they were to be making clutches and such for the 5th gens, not sure about the 4th gens. This could actually be a NISMO short shifter, or it could be a generic with a nismo sticker on it

I wouldnt consider it to be a big risk really. Just dont go paying more than 70 bucks for a shifter for which you do not know the maker. Once you hit that mark, might as well buy a pacesetter or save for a B&M...

I wouldn't suggest getting this shifter even if it were Nismo (which I highly doubt). The design on that eBay sts is primitive. It isn't adjustable and it also doesn't look anything like a B&M as far as the pivot point is concerned. (B&M replaces the whole pivot point for better shifting)
you know all the "80% shorted shifts" stuff sounds great and all, but it raises you chances of misshifts dramaticaly. You need some sense of distance between the gears. I know many of us 5spd owners have done the ole redline 3rd to 2nd misshift before. I cut 3 inches out of the middle of my stock shifter and it feels alot better than the B&M that I had experience with. Tighter shifts, better feel, better hand position, and no quality issues.

Do you mean that you cut 3" off of the top and used a custom ****, or did you really cut 3" out of the middle and welded it all back together with the threads still @ the top?
Forgive me for my ignorance, but an STS is shorter ONLY in the passenger compartment, right? Not below the floor?

Thanks. Now, if I were to be using an aftermarket shift **** (with set screws, as opposed to being of the screw-on design), could I just cut off the proper length at the top?

:Duh. I did not really think about that. Did you do your shifter modification yourself, or did you have someone else do it for you?

Looks exactly like this SHIFTER for half the price. I have one of the non-NISMO shifters and it's notchy. Throws are shorter and once you get used to it you should not miss gears any more than you do with your stock shifter. I'm considering getting a B&M because I have not heard much if anything negative about those and I would prefer a smoother shift. To prevent non threaded ***** coming loose wrap duct tape around the shifter and use thread lock on the set screws. Mine has'nt come loose and thats with drag racing and all.

Ive heard of aluminum ones snapping in half from hard shifts. Its better to be made from steel...
I believe B&Ms are made of aluminum, but i havent heard of any of them snapping yet.
