problem with my Catback!

I had my Catback installed and there is a werid noise comnig from the pipe i dont know wich pipe it actually is but it sounds like its hitting somthing and its very annoying and when its cold it sounds real awful and the pipe has to warm up to stop that noise and when i go over bumps or railroad tracks it still is hitting somthing so i was wondering what i can do about this.

Take it back to the shop where you had it installed.

One of the pipes must be rattling back and forth a little bit, and its too close to something , if you can make it rattle in their shop, they can probably locate where it is rattleing and adjust how far it is from the object its hitting.

IF they cant adjust it, you can put something inbetween your catback and the object your catback is rattling against. make sure the thing you put there will stay, and wont melt.

Same thing happened to my friend on his IS300. He got a catback installed, and it was working fine, but then he bottomed o;ut, and it started to rattle, he took it back and they adjusted it for him. sounds good now=)

ur b-pipe is most likely hitting against the heatshield. the heatshield is all the way from the flex section of the y-pipe back to midpipe. take that thing off.

if ur catback still hitting stuff, most likely the rear section of ur midpipe is banging against the bottom of the car. take the catback to the shop, have them use "heatgun" and adjust the position.

I had the exact same problem-- There is a bar abotu a foot from that cat to the rear--its bolted on the bottom and runs right to left--- every time my exhasut was cold it rattled like no body's bizness----I have the obx which had a small hanger on the b-pipe(rubber one)-- i got me a hose clamp(as other members suggested for the muffler) and put it on the rubber hanger of the b-pipe--that fixed my problem and i haven't had a noise other than BRRrrrrrrrrrrrr

This is why DYI is the best way to go. When this stuff happens you know where to start and wont have the, "I have to run around like a chicken with my head cut off cause my car is rattling" situation.

What heat shielding? I found that it was alot easier to do exhaust work if I just threw the **** in the trash.

this is the heat shield on on top of your exhaust system, there's two parts:
1. from y-pipe flextion to the end of cat
2. the end of cat to b-pipe

heat shield off my car sitting upside down in my backyard

heat shield bolts and small prongs off the supporter of the flex section.

removing these items may decrease the possibility of having weird noises...
