Rusty Rotors

Darn it my rotors are all rusty an' ugly where the pads dont keep it shiny. What can be done about this? Paint? Cleaning and some kind of grease or oil? What do people do? Im sure they dont just leave it- gah, ugly! Im considering getting caliper paint - would that double as rotor paint????? (that seems a little sketchy)

if you're talking about the part of the rotor that meets the hub, i painted mine w/ engine enamel and haven't had a problem.

I just went to PepBoys and found some rust disolving spray-on gel.
Although the intended use is for aluminum or steel body panels. Most rotors are of a high iron content so I don't know how well it will work. I haven't tried it yet.

Is there any alternative other than painting the rotor?

It is just kind of one of those things that happens. I mean, when there is humidity, they are going to rust. I personally wouldn't go to that much trouble to get that little bit not to. IMO

I agree...this is what is gonna happen. If you don't drive your car that often, your rotors will rust. It's nothing bad just looks weird. I wouldn't get too worried about it.

I live in Mississippi, and it is humid enough here that sometimes after just a few hours, like overnite, you can come back and your rotors are rusted. it is okay though, because it is just a thin layer of rust and gets knocked off of there the first couple of times you use brakes. I do agree that it looks a little funny though. Oh well...
