I've heard people having problems with those.. ie. they rust, really quickly. You get what you pay for, as we all know

I had a pacesetter system on my honda accord. The muffler went out after about 4 years and the rest of the pipe lasted 5 years. It wasn't a bad system at all, good for the money. It's a quiet system, and as far as performance goes, the muffler isn't the best you can get. The biggest performance gain you can get for the least amount of money is to get a straight thru, perforated core muffler (magnaflow, HKS, as well as others). I will post a link about this about exhaust work from Sport Compact Car magazine . However, you might just want to upgrade your muffler and replace pipe as necessary, depending on your situation.

The article about building your own exhaust contains some guidelines as to what to look for in a good exhaust system. If I cannot find the link to this article, it can be found in the November 2001 issue of SCC.

had pacesetter on my old talon. they rust pretty quick, and based on piping diameters and mystery mufflers don't necessary gain any hp. Summit racing sells for most applications for $200 or less, check there, they often have free shipping too.

there's nothing flashy about a black-painted exhaust other than the chrome and yellow tip.

(yellow?)

btw the black paint is 'supposed' to make up for the cheap steel that it's constructed out of. If you live in a rainy/snowy/damp state, or travel in any of these conditions, the chances it will rust are even higher. If your dot uses salt on the roads in the winter, you are investing in a catback-rustcan.

Like I said in my previous post, the system for my honda accord wasn't bad (got 4-5 years out of it). I don't know the life expectancy of a good stainless system. I live in the midwest and we get a good amount of rain and snow, so the elements were pretty abusive and my system held up fine.

I would only be concerned with the 2.25" piping its made of. Like you said, the paint will slow rusting. I live in TX, so it's not like it would be a problem here anyways. I don't know off hand the diameter of the stock exhaust piping, but if it is 2.25" as well, you wont see any gains from the exhaust. Just an FYI
