question about tranny swap
I currently have a 98 gxe auto. I was thinking about swaping it for like a 98 5-speed tranny. Will the conversion work out well w/no major problems? Anyone else do a transmission swap? If so, how did it go for you? About how much will the tranny cost? Instulation? Hmm..can anyone recommend a shop in northern cali that does transmission swaps? Any help be much appreciated.

hey
well, alot of people have asked this question. Id recommend you do a search on this to get in dept advice/info. Its a possible swap but it will be costly and hard. There are a few members have done this successfully, im planning to do mines once the new motor goes in. WHere in Northern Cali are you located? my friend's shop charges 2k in labor only. After we dones mines we will see how much is involved and decide how much to charge for labor.

Price it out. You will faint when you find out how expensive this is.
Don't imagine this is just a trans-for-trans swap. You will need a
flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing, clutch pedal, clutch
hydraulics, shifter, etc. etc.
If you are absolutely in love with the idea of converting to 5-speed, look
for a wrecked car (an organ donor) that you can buy for low money. That
way you get everything you need in one package.
The best course of action is to find a clean 5-speed, buy it, and sell your present car.
Who knows, you might even find a guy who is willing to trade because he just got married,
his wife can't drive a stick, etc. etc.
