Those with ECU UPGRADES

I was wondering how many of you run your ecu( JWT or TECHNO) all year round? Or if you put the stock one in for the winter. ( I live in MN, gets very cold here)

I was also wondering, would the cold weather effect gas milage or not work well with the reprogrammed ecu?

Any advice or information on what other people do would be great.

Thanks

cold weather on its own affects gas mileage either way. i'm sure most people run with the ecu's all year round

I run my G force all year. makes no sense to me to pull it out. i bought it for the performance gain. i see no reason to pull it out just to lose that gain.

you also live in TX where its always warm and never have snow. I am curious if there is anyone that lives in colder weather areas and what they do.

For those that have responded , thank you !!

There's no point in taking it out. All it does is advance the spark and lean the fuel, but it doesn't do it to the point where you would be in danger of causing a problem (leanness) because of slightly colder air temps. You are worrying about something not worth worrying over.

From what I hear. I've never actually tried it, though. (Scalded a dog)

The difference (stock vs. upgraded) is pretty noticeable once you get used to it. Going back to the stock ECU really sucks when you're used to an upgraded one. Feels like something's wrong with the car. Plus, swapping ECU's is an absolute pain in the ****. I've never had any problems; hot, cold, rain, snow, ice, etc.

I'll run still run stock most of the time.

My last Gforce caused the MIL to go on so I only ran it on weekends when
performance really counted. I'd rather know when there was a real problem with the car.

My new TS one doesn't cause the error but in winter and wet weather I see no reason for the extra power. Today for instance snow & ice everywhere with spinouts every couple miles. If it wasn't for my VLSD and snow tires I'd be in trouble too with too much power.

I live in michigan it was -10 a week ago and we got 18" of snow in two days, like i said you are worrying over nothing.

Unless your car was originally sold in canada or you swapped in a VLSD, you don't have a VLSD.

I have the JWT ECU and don't have problems running it in Kansas City with temps in the 0-20 degree range. I must say the car seems to run better in weather that's 35+ degrees. In the really cold temps, the car just sounds harsh which is probably because the exhaust piping stays cold (not good for performance) and the heads and block are fully warm (not good for performance). I also noticed that the car doesn't seem quite as quick which I attribute to the winter gas, slightly leaner running conditions, and only 92 octane, but this is something I notice every winter, ECU or not. I'm getting about 20-21mpg in normal driving (80% city/20% highway). In the warmer months I usually get around 23-24mpg overall.
