My Max is idling high.(among other things) Help!

My 95 has been acting up lately. It has been idling high(between 1500-2000 rpm) when I shut the car off for a few minutes and then turn it back on. It takes about 3 minutes and then the idle goes back to normal. Also, my heat has been blowing cold and when I pull away from a idle with it on, the car squeals really loud. And last night, I noticed the temp gauge was peaking at the line right below H. I checked my overfill tank, but there was plenty of fluid. All of this has started within the last month. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

When your motor is cold and you turn it on, its supposed to idle a little higher to warm up the engine and it drops back down then it starts warming up, my max does that. As for the heat blowing cold and your guage peaking abnormally high, check your thermostat, its probably clogged. If your just starting the car and putting the heat on expecting it to be cold, I hope you know you have to wait for it to warm up. If your belts are squeaking, mine were too, check them and tighten them if need be. HOpe that helps

I would check the fluid in your radiator instead of your overflow.

The high idle seems to only happen when I have driven somewhere and shut the car off for short time and yes, I know you have to wait for the car to warm up, but my heat will start blowing cold out of nowhere, like after 30 minutes of highway driving. The heat got better after I filled the overfill tank. All of these things have started happening in the last month, before that, my Max had never been like this. How much is a thermostat and how hard is it to put in? How do I check the belts and adjust them? Again, thanks.
