97' ECU upgrade from Technosquare
With the permission of Danny in Sales over at Technosquare I am posting these comments he made to my quesitons.
Me: Does Technosquare have any plans for a 97' ECU upgrade with an increased rev limiter?
Danny: No, the reason why is we have previously looked into the ECU board for the 97' maxima and have found that Nissan used these specific boards for this year only and the company that produced the boards for Nissan is now out of business. We have no way of buying spare ECU's to work on. Which means it is not worth our time to set up a group deal or even produce an ECU upgrade for this specific model.
Me: I know there have been some guys on maxima.org that have later production dated 96' ECU's that do not trip a cell light.
Danny: I have heard the same. If you find one of these ECU's we will tune it to your specific needs.
Me: Does Technosquare plan on adding an increased rev limiter for the 95/96 ECU's?
Danny: We are currently working on developing an ECU for this specific generation with an increased rev limiter. We will know more information in 1 to 2 months time.
Me: If I tell you the modifications to my car you can reprogram the ECU specific to my car pending that I have a 96 ECU for you to use.?
Danny: Yes
Me: If I wanted Technosquare to specifically tune my car/ECU is it possible to do?
Danny: Yes, we do not have a wideband O2 dyno here in our shop but we have one available for use a few blocks down the street. We prefer to tune on the street and cross reference that vs a dyno machine. If you want this we charge 65 per hour and it usually takes 1-2 hours of tuning time.
Hope this helps guys!

How are you guys finding these 96 ECUs? I mean, it is impossible to get it in the forums (at least for me). I always search for 96 ECUs and someone always beats me to the ECU. So is there somewhere else I can buy a 96 ECU, and what date is recommended? Thank you.
Good information 1eyed, answered a few questions I had.

So you bought the 96 ecu, then sent it out to techno, and then swapped it into your car? How much did all of that cost? Any cel's?
Also, if they raise the rev limiter's on the 96's can we still put those in the 97's?

I have great respect for what Technosquare does, however, this goes against what I know to be true. There are some instances where you can put 96 ECU's into 97+'s, not sure what the parameters for that are, but it does not work across the board without a CEL. Some just don't seem to have the problem. Futhermore, AFAIK, there is no functional difference between the 97, 98, and fed spec 99 ECU's. I know I've seen them used interchangably before. If search were working, I could point to some examples

Did you say 97, 98 , and 99s are interchangable? Are you sure? Cause I would do anything for a 99 ECU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
