Intake question

I'm looking at Weapon-R intakes (mainly because they're the nicest for what I can afford). Anyway, my friend has said that adding one will change the sound of my engine a bit. Is this true? He has an AEM on his Civic and I guess it made a difference in the sound...I don't know for sure. I just wanted to ask some experts. Thanks for the help

It will only change the sound of the engine after about 3k rpm after which it will get much louder. Below that you will barely be able to tell.

It will make a difference in the sound. If you do end up getting it, it's mostly a sound mod. Some power can be gained, but it's not that much, general consensus is ~3-5fwhp. Does the Weapon R come with those foam intakes? I'd stay away from those and get a large cone if i was you or the Apexi.

So in your guys' opinion would a muffler (by itself) or an intake be a better investment. I'm too poor to buy a whole cat back or something.

Get a y pipe. It costs less, and makes 3-5 times more power. Muffler and intake are both low hp gains, 3 or so for the intake, maybe 1-2 for the muffler alone. Even a catback will only give 5 or so. These things are for ricers. You want performance, right? Y pipe gives around 10+ hp, for 165 bucks, and little sound. Then hack your stock airbox for the same 3-5 hp you'd get from a purchased intake.

Is the Y-pipe only made by Stillen? Cause that's the only one I can find and its $365. Do you know where I could find a cheap one...if there's any other place besides ebay.

Oh, and what do you mean "hack" my stock airbox?

I see everyone (I've probably said it too) saying: It'll change the sound after 3krpm.

I disagree. It depends on how much gas you're giving it. I can take my car to redline without any noticeable difference in sound (over stock)...if I am light-moderate on the pedal. When I open it up, though, I notice a considerable difference even at low RPM.

budget, warpspeed, cattman, and stillen make y-pipes. stay away from stillen cause i heard it has "bees in the can" and also stay away from cattman 1st gen y-pipe, they have a problem with the flex. jump on the group deal for the warpspeed, its a good deal for a good y.

I have a stillen pipe (~2 years old). No bees in the can here.

A bit pricey, and it's only mild steel. If I were doing it all over again, I'd definitely go with stainless steel.
