Does Exhaust Wrap Damage Y-Pipe?

I'm gettin in on the GD posted by budha, and bought some wrap on eBay. This is budha's response from a WSPD rep, about people wanting SS in stead of aluminized steel:

We never suggest headerwrap because it shortens the lifespan of stainless and mild steel by 50% because it overheats the steel. -Dallas
So is this just for SS, or the aluminized too? I mean, its not that big of a deal I guess... I'll probably sell the car in 4 yrs or so, but is this something to consider? Or does the noise (bees), take a priority over life of the y-pipe?
