Now bare with me 20 dollars will only get you so far but i mainly did this just to see if it could be done. I bought 2 90 degree 3" bends, one PVC and one rubber. a heating duct and some 8" aluminum flex pipe. The order of assembly from the throttle body out went as follows... stock rubber flex hose and air box with the emission and sensr hoses in it, then the pvc bending towards the front (i rotated the battery), then rubber 90 going down in front of fans, then the stock top half of the air box and MAF sensor with the heating duct on the bottom (the filter is facing towards the engine), then i put some 8 inch flex pipe on the opening of the duct and that went down through the plastic splash guard and bent towards the front for a scoop. (the MAF sensor wires will stretch far enough for the MAF if you unhook the clips)
I didnt expect too much out of it, but with it being 36 degrees out i definitely noticed a boost, especially winding out second and third. Highway response seemed better too. before i just had the hacked air box, which sounded better but didnt have enough higher rpm power. i cant wait to hit the track april 2 to see if it makes a difference.
Sorry i dont have any pics yet but ill get some and post em. or if any of you guys are interested in them or have any questions email or pm me. Redsox4seires@aol.com
all of the items can be found at home depot for a reasonable price

the idea sounds cool, and i could scrounge up 20 bucks! pictures later would help me visualize a little better. i like the idea of not having to hack my stock box as well
i will get pics after this weekend, im away right now. It took way too long cause i kept trying to use different materials and it wa sort of a ball buster. the set up i have now works pretty good but it probably temporary, ill post more when i can but i highly suggest making this. My friend has the same car as me and says his doesnt feel any faster than mine and hes got an injen intake. But if you do already have an injen you could make a scoop even eseir with the same gains. only thing im worried about is having it scoop some water too in the rain. Ive worked out something to handle that but also might need some reperations.
hmmm...so how could more flow reach the stock box? remove the lower resonator/silencer thing maybe? i'd rather not hack the side too much, but fresh cold air sounds good to me, and wouldnt it keep the benefits of the stock box, with the air reserve effect?
my air box is infront of the fans about 4 inches above the plastics, with a much longer mid-pipe. i think Nismo's design probably has better lower rpm power and mine has better higher rpm pull. I wonder if anyone has routed there air filter/box into the wheel well?

p.s. Nice version of a CAI Nismo, where else you think you could stick that funnel since some peep's have fogs in that hole (that is the fog light hole right?)

Its the drivers side fog light hole 97-99 max
well, Im not shure where else you can stick it since the funnel is like 7 inch diameter, you can buy smaller funnels or find a rectangular funnel like a big vacuum cleaner attachment one then you can stick it under the bumper but make shure it wont hit anything if your lowered
