Tech problem please help!!

I just got my mid pipe intake in. I got it all hooked up except for the whole in the intake pipe with rubber around it, and the air temp sensor. Does the sensor go in there. I tried but it does'nt stay. So now my car runs really funny when it's cold until it warms up. Almost like it's missfiring. but as soon as it get's some heat in it boom it's fine. Guys please help I'm so ****ed

Sounds like you have a mid-pipe for a '97-99. The ambient temperature sensor for the '95-96 has two small screws to hold it in place, the later ones were just friction fit in a round rubber grommet.

I suggest that you remove the pipe and drill and tap it for machine screws. If you chose to not tap the holes, then make sure you use lock-tite on the nuts. The last thing you want to do is feed a #6 machine screw nut to your engine.

I'm not sure but I would think so. It would be sensing the air in the engine compartment instead of the air in the intake. If the air is warmer than what the sensor is reading, your engine would run rich and you would get poor gas mileage. If the air is colder than what the sensor is reading, your engine would be in a lean condition and would probably stumble when the enigine is cold (like right after start-up).

Either way, I think it's worth the effort to do it right and install it.

Why won't the grommet fit in the hole? Is the hole too big or too small? Yes, you want it in there and you want it sealed. Drop a little RTV blue/black around it to seal it up properly.

thank you so much guys. Yeah the hole is a little to big but I'm going to parts store right now to buy rtv and a dome light. And that's what it's doing is stumbling a little when it's cold and not on choke. Thanks you guys fuking rock

Most RTV's emit acedic (sp?) acid as they cure and continue to release trace amounts for quite a while. IMHO, I suggest that you get rid of the RTV you just put in, get the good stuff and hope for the best.
