Camber adjustment
Camber adjustment
I have a 99 maxima that makes a strange sound when driving straight or right but not when I turn the wheel left. It sounds kind of like **** tires when I go over 30 mph. The Max has been lowered with Eibach springs and GR2's. I also have 18" rims, but it made the noise before the rims were put on. The inside of the passenger side tire has excessive wear (it’s bald while the rest of the tire has tread). The alignment was done but the camber is off on the left side. The front is at -1.2 camber, 15.8 SAI. The rear is -2.0 Camber. I know there are camber kits from various manufactures for the front but I haven't seen any for the rear.
Any suggestions on how to get this fixed?

You can buy an aftermarket alignment kit for the camber. Most people buy the Eibach camber bolts which attach at the bottom of the strut. You can buy a set of bolts for about $35 dollars with shipping.
If you look at the bottom of the strut, you will find a pair of bolts attaching it to the lower knuckle. The upper bolt is removed and replaced with the camber bolt. The camber bolt has an elliptical pattern to push the knuckle inward or outward as it is rotated. (it all attaches to the brake rotor which of course mates up with the wheel). Of course, the lower bolt has to be loosened first to make the adjustment work on the upper bolt.
The Eibach bolts allow 3/4 of a degree of camber in either the positive or negative direction starting from whatever nominal value exists. So if your camber for example was -1.00 degree to begin with, the bolts would allow you to go from -0.25 thru -1.75 degrees.

I bought the camber bolts when I upgraded my suspension (H&Rs), but didn't install them at the time. I've noticed a good deal of tire wear on the inside edge, so I'm thinking about installing them. Will most alignment places know how to adjust them and be able to do a good job at it?

I'm getting my suspension upgraded soon, with H&R springs and Tokico Illumina Shocks. Most of the places I've contacted for install said they couldn't do alignment. Is it best to have the install place put in the eibach camber bolts or will only the alignment people know what they're doing with them? I ask this because the alignment places will charge a lot to just put in the bolts. thanks a lot guys, can't wait till my new suspension
