Hi,,, I just changed my brake pads and got my rotors resurfaced... while it was on the lift i was looking at the front CV joint and noticed the boot was ripped, thus revealing the acutal joint...
does it really matter that the cv boot is not covering the joint all the way? or should i just put another on there.
don't really want something to possibly get in there and do something harmful.

thing is,,, im not sure how long its been like this... i bought the car used about a year ago w/ 96,000 miles. just not have brakes worked on, never really had tires off either.
looks kinda like the rubber is dry rotted, but im not to sure.

If the grease is all over the inside of your rim then it is time to replace the whole axle. Better replace the other boot on the opposite side just to be safe.

I may just change mine even thought it is not ripped jsut to be sure I don't have an expensive repair later.
Is this a good thing to do?

I had both of mine done at a shop for $230. The labor is the same to replace the boot or the entire axle so replace the axle and you won't have to worry about covering up a bad axle. With almost a 100k miles, the axle is probably weak by now so just replace the whole thing.
I'd replace the entire axle...might as well do both of them to be safe, it's cheap enough. Go with raxles...just got mine delivered a few days ago, they were 119 for one side and 149 for the other, forgot which one was more expensive. They're supposedly better than stock.
