I'm thinking of installing a cone filter into my max. I've been thinking about either purchasing a JWT pop-charger, Stillen pop-charger or the Ractive superflow heat sheild cone filter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Stillen and JWT are pretty similar in looks and performance. The ractive filter, as I understand has a heat shield of some sort as i have read. Right now my question is, is anyone using the Ractive superflow heat shield cone filter, and if so, is it any good? Also if anyone has used both the Pop-charger and the Ractive filter, any opinions? thanx....

By the way, here's a pic of the filter along with a blurb I found about this thing.
<img src = "http://home.hkstar.com/~pleohk/ractive2.jpg">

The secret to the power increase is in the shape of the filter itself (that part inside the shield) and the shield itself. It one looks at the filter straight on, the opening looks reminiscent of the intake of a jet engine. This is not simply for cosmetic purposes, there is an aerodynamic reason for this. Bernoulli's Principle combined with one principle of Thermodynamics can explain the resulting power increase. As air enters the filter, the blunt cone shape forces the air to speed up (Bernoulli's Principle) thereby reducing ambient pressure. This drop in pressure causes a dramatic drop in the temperature of the air now being ingested by the engine (This principle of thermodynamics is used everyday in common appliances such as refrigerator or air conditioners). The temperature drop causes an increase in air density, thereby increasing the intake charge density, which equates to more power. All of this takes place even though the SF-007 filter is physically smaller than the filter it is replacing. The shield while aiding in the aforementioned effect also maintains the charge density by limiting hot underhood air entering the intake system and nullifying the effect of the filter shape. At the open end you will notice a lip or flange.

I would tell you to do a search, but... the search is being tweeked right now.

But you could also go here: https://maxima.org/maxfaqs/index.shtml

Bascially, just get the JWT and make your own heat sheild.

The JWT is cheaper and it performs just as well as the Stillen.

And the heat shield... well... a couple of members on the board have made their own heatshields... don't see why you can't do it too if you really want one.

Don't get the Ractive, have you seen how small it is? Plus the heat shield is so tight up against the filter itself that it has to block airflow. Put it this way, the JWT and stillen are both around or over $100, the Ractive is like $20. Even when you factor in the markup for just the name on the JWT or Stillen, there has to be a quality difference. I've never seen a Ractive filter on a fast well modified car, just crappy cars with no real mods.
