Is this a good deal for a transmission fluid change?
Is this a good deal for a transmission fluid change?
I know you need to perform this to prevent your automatic transmission from getting rebuilt.. I went to this mechanic my dad knows, and he says that he will charge 60 bucks to change the fluid. Is this a good deal or what? Is it easy enough to do it yourself? Kind of a
question, so i apologize. Also, Pepboys has this service for flushing all cooling systems of your car for about 90 bucks. Is this a good deal? Is it basically the same thing as the fluid change? Thanks!

The time tested method is typically called an automatic transmission service. They drop the pan. Clean the pan. Replace the old filter. Drain what ATF falls by gravity- about 30 percent. And refill. This is what I have done on my cars. The tranny flush is newer, and easier for the place. The don't change the filter. They just connect one of the machines to a tranny hose and cycle the fluid out. They change 100% of the fluid. But, on older tranny's supposedly crud from one part of the tranny can get to another part where it shouldn't be and cause failures. With your car being so new, probably neither would cause an immediate failure. Personally if they will drop the pan for 60-90 bucks that would be a good deal. You don't really need to be changing 100% of the fluid anyway, so I'd do the tranny service.
